So here I am sitting in the QP at PER. I am watching the planes come and go and I know that QF581 (747 service) from SYD is about to land so I am keeping an eye out. I see it on final approach. There is a DJ A330 holding at the entrance to the runway they are using for landing and take off. With QF581 moments (I would say 90 seconds) away from touchdown the DJ A330 moves into the runway and takes up a take off position. The QF 747 then immediately changes trajectory and powers up for a go around. I'd guess it was about 800 - 1000 mtrs above the end of the runway as the 747 passed over the DJ A330.

Seemed like there wasn't much in it. The gear was down on the 747 and it went up and the 747 gathered some speed mighty quick. There was a fair bit of engine noise as it flew over the runway at what I can imagine would be close to take off speed. A few people sitting in the QP looked around and I asked a couple of guys watching if they saw what I saw ... they said 'Yep'.

Was anyone from here on that flight?

I wonder if this will make the news... or a VA v QF battle on who did wrong...

I had a look on flightradar24 and there was a go around, but I can't get that site to slow it down very well :(

Might not be ATC, when you clear an aircraft for takeoff, there is no real timeframe they have, the Virgin aircraft may have been slower than expected to Roll for instance.

How do I look for that qf flight using webtrak? :) sorry am a newbie here..

Go to the bottom, select historical, select 12.07pm, press set and look for the big red jets north of the airport near The Vines. Click on them to confirm the flight.

You can adjust the playback speed down the bottom.

Might have been too much sun glare from all the high-vis vests.. lol :P

I wonder if anyone got any footage of it.

Nothing on Jetspotters yet, so wait and see I guess.

Wouldn't mind being in a go around one time just for the experience and/or to see one happen from the ground...

It resulting in a violent crashing and burning situation i could live without....

Hard to tell what happened, interestingly the go around was given by ATC after telling Virgin to hold.

At the 8 minute mark.

From the view I had, the DJ aircraft moved into the runway after holding at the taxiway for a few minutes, once lined up it then held at top of runway as the QF 747 went around. Listening the that ATC feed, there is something about 5mins in that mentions a DJ aircraft. The DJ aircraft was a flight to MEL.

Earlier post mentioned the QF 747 got to 1000 feet, so a bit closer than I originally estimated.

Why do they (pilots and atc), talk so quickly? I can hardly keep up/hear what thy say to each other.
