Hi All,

I am planning to have a 3 or 4 nights stay at one of the hotels in Gold Coast maybe in Sept or Oct this year. Going with wife and a 2.5 year old daughter.

Hotel Status that I have:

HH Gold
Accor Plat
SPG Gold
PC Gold

I was also thinking to use 1 free night stay on my amex plat reserve and will probably book the rest of the stay using cash or HH points. They include, Sheraton mirage, Hilton Surfers Paradise and Sofitel.

I think accor plat means nothing at the Sofitel in Gold coast. With Hilton I will get breakfast and internet. Not sure with Sheraton.

Which hotel do you think will give me most bang for buck of the above? :)

And not sure if I will get status benefits using free night from Amex. And how do you think I should book the rooms? i.e. free night at the last night and the first few nights paying cash/points or having free night at the first night of stay and the rest paid after that with cash/points? Or it doesn't matter? I guess I would also need to inform the hotel to have me in the same room for all the nights since the booking is sort of separate?? Hopefully you guys/girls have had this kind of experience?

Thanks,
K.

I think Broadbeach is a much nicer place to be as a family, however the last time I stayed at that property it was a Grand Mercure and the Hilton SP does look very swanky.

I was in Broadbeach on the weekend however and as an area it was as nice as always :)

The Sofitel is very old and there are lots of roadworks nearby there right now as they're heavily working on the light rail.

There are some road works through Surfers too, but not right outside the Hilton. That said though, the streets below are where all the clubs and bars are.

The Sheraton is furthest away, up near Sea World and looks nice, though haven't seen a room lately. It's also got access to a beach that's been washed away ;)

Not that you have mentioned any others, but I've been to the QT and while there are also roadworks there, I found it quite nice. There's also the hotel near where I live, away from the strip, but with views to the coast, RACV Royal Pines that seems nice enough.

All that said, living here... I never stay anywhere on the GC! :p

Had three nights last week at the Hilton. Very impressed, but some of my colleagues on a lower floor complained about noise from the Clubs.

As samh004 has said, the Sheraton has the best location and a nice pool, but could be a bit rundown.

I think the Sheraton would be the best, it's been refurbished.

The Sofitel at Broadbeach is not part of A Club, so no upgrade as an Accor Plat as you say

Thanks guys. Tossing up between Hilton and Sheraton. Tempted with Hilton as I can get the great getaway sale at $169 in early sept.

I spent a few nights in the Hilton in April albeit in the residences. Had to say I'd be back again given I was happy with the product and location. Also has a lounge, if youre going that option. Given you have a young'en, There's added benefits of having the woolies across the road (under circle on cavil.) if you need anything.
'havent stayed at the Sheraton so can't compare.

+1 for the QT. Especially good value for the 2 or 3 night package ... But must join as a member prior to Rydges program (free).
This is now our preferred hotel on GC. Restaurant for dinner is excellent as is breakfast. And rooms are quiet (only tried seaview).
Even with no status well looked after. Funky retro design is a good change.

I stayed at the Sheraton on the weekend. Loved it! At the moment all the lagoons have been drained for repairs, but this will be finished by the time you visit. If funds allow I would definitely stay at the Sheraton (ocean view room)

Is the Sheraton far from surfers ? Also how is public transport from the Sheraton to surfers? Although its slightly over my budget.

It is an easy walk, say about 30 minutes or so less than 5000 metres I think. If you have little ones in tow, then perhaps not.

There is a bus that goes right past the Sheraton that will take you to Surfers; 750 I think.

Thanks. Yes will have a 2.5 year old daughter. So walk is not an option :)

Thanks Markus. Is the breakfast/dinner anygood at the Sheraton?

Although I have stayed there recently I have not eaten there, however I may be there soon as its handy to Seaworld and I have promised Markis10jr another visit while our passes are current (he is 4), and its an easy walk, will report back if we eat in. It also has a Maccas across in the mall which is reachable via a walkway across the road, handy for the youngsters.

Thanks. I think I will probably stay for 4 nights. My daughter is 2.5 years, do you think seaworld is suitable?

Yes, they have some good rides and attractions for the junior adults, along with the shows like Dora etc and the animal shows.

Thanks :) Now to see if I should use cash + points. It's 6000 SPG points + USD $110 per night.... or 12000 SPG points per night.. Or approx. $240 cash per night... Also is it advisable to rent a car say for 3-4 days?

I think we will go to movie world, sea world. Not sure if the others are suitable.... and dine at nice places (need to do research)..

Central Surfers is a disaster at this time with "Light Rail" construction. Occupancy is well down and rates are all over the place ! The Sheraton is a good choice at this time.
Suggest you ring direct and try to do a deal ! We hear of bargain prices being offered by some properties and stories of only 8-10 rooms occupied in a major hotel. Can't see
it being much better in Sept and October. Remember to avoid school holidays.
