Gonna be a bunch of unhappy campers at Perth Airport today...

Guess it's all QF and JQ's fault according to the report. Thought there were more than 2 airlines flying there?

Either VA are still operating or perhaps they have dropped PER as a destination????

QF575 landed about 10 am and more than 5 hours later we are still stuck on board.

Lightning is a cough

The weather cell is clearing out now. Been a long time since I remember a storm that went for as long as this.

Not looking forward to rocking up at the airport later tonight, I expect a fair few people!

I don't think it was a QF/JQ centric story... As JB747 said one time, when lightning is around the place the ground crew refuse to approach planes etc...

But if that's a small plane your on Cove that would suck!!! At least if you were on that 747 that flies domestic or maybe some international plane arrived you might have some decent IFE etc to entertain you a bit.... Hope the food and alcohol hasn't run out either...

Edit: ok so QF/JQ got all the mention when it would have been the same for everyone.. If nothing else for the people in the terminals and not stuck on the planes it might have been an interesting sight to see all the planes lined up and a few fire engines to boot... But a timely reminder of how dangerous toilets can be eh!!!

First big scalp claimed

Perth Glory's flight to SYD cancelled - meant to be playing tomorrow night in Campbelltown vs Sydney FC.

Well...that isn't going to happen...FFA will have to reschedule the match

I suggest they will be very pissed as well as Sydney FC..this game has been hyped up for a while.

Hmm per the article:

news said:
Qantas has 16 flights sitting on taxiways unable to dock at a gate because planes have been unable to depart because of the storms.

The last Qantas flight was dispatched at 8.25 this morning.

The weather has also slowed up arrivals with many planes in holding patterns.

Jetstar has reportedly cancelled all flights until the weather improves.

It is understood other airlines have been unaffected.

My Bolding...

Ah ok, i missed that bit... The VA ground staff must have cahones of steel or something to work in those conditions... Obviously the non-conducting variety... ;)

Cahones of graphite maybe? Maybe their EBA doesn't offer them the same protection that QF's does?

I don't want every response to a story to be "QF are hard done to by the media" but no one should be getting on or off the aircraft irrespective of carrier.

I am sure that cove has had a bloody awful day and hope his/her business/personal life hasn't been too badly affected by this.

Well, to quote an alternative news source:

It is understood Virgin had grounded all flights out of Perth since this morning.

Well a bright spot was that at least Cove can look forward to probably seeing me tomorrow at the Perth drinks... :)

Does that mean you can also join us tomorrow night Must Fly??? :D

When days like this occur, I love reading the no news readers comments...

Nope! I always miss these things by a day wherever I go.:(

Now it's just 9 hours...getting closer !:)

Leaving at 0905 tomorrow to SYD then on to WLG at 1800.

Plus side is I got rebooked into H for PER-SYD..another (useless) 20 SC. But I'm pleased about taking an A330...IFE :)

If you look at the departures on Perth Airport's website there are a number of Virgin (and Skywest) flights either delayed or cancelled. Maybe the bit about other airlines not being affected was true at the time it was written. But now it certainly appears different.

It looks like international flights got off quite lightly.
