Good News! Pyjamas on (almost) all Qantas international flights in J!

I reckon we have 1 set each at home and as a rule I leave them on the aircraft. They will never get used at home ever again so no point cluttering the house

Why don’t you use them at home anyway? They’re quite sought after, branded with an Australian icon and I’d say they are a much higher quality than typical pyjamas you find at Kmart, Target or BigW. You can look at it as a glass half full and seek to gradually replace your normal Kmart/Target/BigW pyjamas with something more premium as you get more and more complimentary QF pyjamas, but that’s just my opinion.

Actually I'm curious - for those that fly J regularly, do you use them for the plane then just leave it onboard?

We keep just one set from a return flight unopened for home and wear and leave the rest onboard. Not particularly keen on the QF prison greys and I find the EK F ones to be the best quality but one set is ample. Sometimes we gift a set to friends in land far far away.

We don’t own a single set of pyjamas. We have 1 set of airline pyjamas which we kept for some unknown reason but we don’t wear pyjamas at home and I rarely wear them on flights

Genuinely interested as to why anyone would do this. The pyjamas are yours and if you don’t want them then give it to family or friends who would more than happily accept.

Many Australian households have at least one set of QF J pyjamas, but they aren’t necessarily worn by people who flew QF J.

When you have 5 sets already and friends and family also don't want them then they effectively become clutter.

I dont think they were ever identified. But seems it was a 380 LAX MEL, not Sydney. Closest I could find.

Yeah that one out of LAX involved an entitled psychologist which is hilariously bizarre.

As for my oj use. I try to be practical with them and plan ahead to a degree. Eg say I fly to the US, get a set on the flight and wear, take with me and wash/use at destination and take with me on the return(washed!) So nit wasting another pair.

I fear when leaving used pjs they are just chucked and I really don't like the wasteage potential. I wonder if airlines might offer a ",recycle" option, or at leadt "we'll wash and reuse" option if popped in a bin or something. I do realise there is a funny thing some might have about pre worn ojs being used again, but tbh if they're clean.. ?

I do admit I have left the odd pair on return to Oz because I have a draw full whuch I use during winter on iccasion. I try not to though for above reason. There is the donation option too.

I also have taken pj's on trips on airlines who don't offer them (eg NZ) and usually I use other airline ones - but the more understated ones, not the QF J ones.

You're right in that QF PJs left on the plane will be thrown in the bin.

'Wash and reuse' is a terrible idea. No matter how much you wash someone else's PJs before giving them to another passenger, it's still a used set and does not resonate well with a prestige brand.

That's why the ideal option is for everyone to take them home when offered.

I was thinking more to refuges/shelters etc - like with amenity kits where the toothbrushes/paste can be ver helpful. I guess Op DlShop works too.

Don't disagree with this. I did note in my original comment it was obviously an "iffy" one.

however QF is also pushing the eco friendly/green thing too. It could be spun in this context. Heck - get a green tier leaf even for using.

Again, I get pj's can be seen as more intimate apparel so you want new. I get that. I see in the context of a plane as similiar to pillows/cases, blankets etc (which of course are reused). I can definitely see both views.


i also think of the JL "shirts" they "loan" to.pax on long haul vs pj's. Surely those are cleaned and reused.


I guess those who are really interested in reducing wastage would bring their iwn if they want to use pj's.

I'm no eco warrior, but I do despair at the huge amounts of wastage in the airline industry.

Not always practical and even then many would probably bin them. Only small numbers probably would keep at home and reuse (and far less for the mire FF) or donate.

On a more serious note, I like the idea @RichardMEL raises re. green tier leaf for using washed Pjs that are later re-packed as new. However, I can also see the sort of issues that people would raise. So, perhaps a better option might be to have new PJs as the default option, but a green-tier deserving alternative option that folks, if they so desire, can pre-select, not unlike when your QFF profile identifies the fact that you like window seats over aisles. You may not necessarily be guaranteed to get that, but at least it helps them organise things at their end.

Makes me wonder what other things could be awarded green tiers for. I feel that the current green tier system is relatively limited, but has loads more potential. But that's a thought for another thread...

Already happening. A lot of kids/teens wear the national carrier’s F and J pyjamas to sleepovers and stuff, and that’s a good thing. QF is an iconic, prestige Australian brand and it should be marketed and celebrated by the Australian people as much as possible - this is a great way to do it.
