That was the big announcement?

I am sure someone will get excited....

I guess I really should give it some time... (but hey, they did have the link from the promotion page...) but the Westpac Altitude calculator isn't showing the bonus yet... oh well.. will try in the morning... ummm... I mean, later this morning ;)

Edit: hmmm, perhaps the calculators won't show a difference and Velocity will just credit the bonus... too late to bother reading the fine details.

What would be cool is if the bonus was tierd and tied to your membership.

EG:
Silver gets 5% bonus
Gold 10%
Plat 20%

More incentive to retain platinum then

Good thing I'm up doing business as otherwise this would be a really big frown :(. I'm sure some VA FFers will be excited, just not a lot of those that are being / have been status matched by VA.

Are you kidding me?

I stayed up to midnight for that?

Time for bed ...

Ah, you see Velocity DOES have a sense of humour at least!

Im sure a few will find this tremendously exciting. JB could take a dump on the front lawn of Virgin house, and there would be rife excitement. Watching some reminds me of when I was 9 or 10 and couldn't wait for the Mickey Mouse show on TV after school, the previous days teasers would have you by 2pm anticipating the best show ever - but by 5pm, you realised you had just wasted another hour of your life on garbage, but the testers for tomorrows show looked good!

I find it funny how worked up some people get about the "big annoucement", given that was nothing more than a twitter hint.

Love you all for interpreting a simple tweet as a "big announcement!" :D

This is about giving Velocity members BONUS points for not only being a member of the FF program, but also being a member of one of our participating bank partners.

Visit the website here and find out more details on getting a 20% boost to those Velocity points balances!

20% for free - that's a good day to be a Velocity member right?

Unfortunately, that tweet - coming on the heels of last week, and what is expected from QFF today - was a bit too vague and as such may have raised undue expectations. :)

I called Red Roo out on the same thing, so it's only fair - this only makes it a 'good' day for the subset of Velocity members who also hold those non-direct earn cards and who also have a sizeable untransferred stash of points. Not so great for Velocity members who don't have points hoarded with such cards, have direct-earn cards to Velocity (ie Amex or Virgin Money) or don't yet have any cards linked to their VFF account (though last week's news made that all the more attractive).

But that aside, I thought the status match made for a brilliant day to be a Velocity member last week (even for those who weren't and shortly became ones!), so can probably overlook this minor anti-climax. ;)

Only if said dump was announced by a vague tweet the day before.

Ahhhh no, it is not a good day. 20% is decidedly underwhelming and of no consequence to anybody; and disturbingly, it is exactly the type of PR stunt Qantas would try.

VFF, you and your team probably need to have a good hard look at yourselves. Perhaps you should reconsider your participation in this forum if you are going to manipulate it (and its members) to your advantage over a pathetically small promotion.

Remember, we are not here for your company's benefit. You are here for our benefit - and this relationship is overwhelmingly 1-way.

Where did they manipulate this forum and its members with regard to this promotion?

Where did they manipulate this forum and its members with regard to this promotion?

By trying to create "buzz", where really it was just a stinking old dead fish.

As far as I can see, their first post on the matter was at 9.07 this morning. Everything else before that was just wild speculation based on a tweet.

Dunno about expectations, but I now know what was meant by "... those who wait"!

I transferred some MR points to Velocity yesterday. :-|

re: "Good things come to those that wait" = 20% CC Tfr Bonus

I hate twitter anyway and already have a westpac card. Yawn.

That's a bit harsh. Sure it's not a world changing promotion but it is a nice little bonus for some people.

Well in that case, it actually makes perfect sense - seems like you weren't the only one either! :(

To clarify my earlier comments, I'm not fussed about the promo / tweet itself - only that it was inevitable that people's expectations would have been raised given the context, and that it wasn't really something for all VFF members to be excited about, just those select few (the same sort of generality I took issue with from QFF).

I certainly don't think VFF 'manipulated' (or even tried to manipulate) anyone here since this is the first they've raised it themselves, nor that they should reconsider participating (or even that they were doing any sort of a bad job of participating - to the contrary!).

Any sort of company participation here should be embraced and encouraged, because in the long run it's a great thing for us all - at the same time, given the audience they're playing to here, they'd be wise not to take us for fools (I think for the most part they don't - but sometimes a little reminder doesn't hurt). :)
