re: "Good things come to those that wait" = 20% CC Tfr Bonus

Ahhhh no, it is not a good day. 20% is decidedly underwhelming and of no consequence to anybody; and disturbingly, it is exactly the type of PR stunt Qantas would try.

VFF, you and your team probably need to have a good hard look at yourselves. Perhaps you should reconsider your participation in this forum if you are going to manipulate it (and its members) to your advantage over a pathetically small promotion.

Remember, we are not here for your company's benefit. You are here for our benefit - and this relationship is overwhelmingly 1-way.

Good morning Browski, thanks for the feedback, but will have to disagree with most of your points.

Firstly, there was no PR stunt.
There was no skywriting, no flashmob, no above the line spend to advertise the promotion.

Secondly, 20% bonus points would be a free PE flight from MEL to CNS should you transfer 120K AMEX pts. I personally wouldn't be underwhelmed with that!

Thirdly, I'd like to see how our use of social media can be misconstrued as "manipulating the AFF community". At no point have we said that today was due a big announcement from us. Should anyone decide to interpret and discuss what could be, I don't see how we can be responsible for that.
People online have asked numerous times about when the next Bonus Points promotion would happen. Well here it is (and note that it was not announced by us on AFF).

As for being here for your benefit, I'd like to think that we are seen as part of the community just like everyone else. Surely AFF is here to discuss flying, help each other with questions, and to maximise everyone's travel experiences. With our participation it becomes a two-way street. We give you information, and take on board your feedback.

Likewise if you ever have any issues with anything DJ or VFF related, my inbox is always open (which many of the AFF would attest to)

Once again, thanks for the feedback.

Any sort of company participation here should be embraced and encouraged, because in the long run it's a great thing for us all - at the same time, given the audience they're playing to here, they'd be wise not to take us for fools (I think for the most part they don't - but sometimes a little reminder doesn't hurt). :)
Certainly don't take anyone, no matter what the social media channel is, as a fool.

Poor form browksi.

Even though I got sucked into waiting up to midnight, it was my own fault for convincing myself that we might see a cheap seat sale to celebrate Virgin's birthday.

I would assume from your quote that you don't frequent the Virgin threads too often. The VFF team are and have always been of assistance on this forum. The speculation as to what the announcement was was not by VFF on the forum but by members and many will be happy now that they have been comped from Qantas to move points to Virgin with a 20% bonus.

Not sure what you were looking for but I think you maybe a little off the mark with your statements.

Browski, you are way out of line with your comments to be frank, no member is here for the benefit of others or to be used by others, we are all part of the community where there are no expectations other than to abide by its rules, especially company reps, who receive no extra benefits whatsoever and are often participating on their own dime. The rep tag is purely there to authenticate the info given, not to imply any obligations beyond a normal member.

I am gobsmacked at your reaction considering this was a discussion about a tweet that was simply a heads up about a bonus, dead fish for some is life giving food for others, its all relative to your own situation and perception.

Hear Hear Velocity Rewards..

You can't be held accountable for some peoples enthusiasm, personally I didn't wait up in anticipation, but on the other hand the 20% bonus is quite good indeed! I will certainly make use of it before the end of October!

I don't know what sort of announcement you were expecting browski, but I think VA have had some pretty good ones over the last few weeks... I think your comments were out of line though..

Great response VFF. I am sure you don't need to be reminded how valued you are by this online community as a whole, and not to let a few rotten apples convince you otherwise.

not wanting to put too fine a point on it, and everyone is entitled to their views - I don't agree entirely with browski - there is no need to infer he / she is a rotten apple among the AFF community.

Hey all, I didn't wait up for it, but I was up early, and had a bloody good laugh :D..........not such a bad way to start the day! Let's not take ourselves too seriously  ;)

(but VFF.......are you sure you don't have a Fly Buys announcement to peddle out today sometime? I was convinced you did and you know I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken)!

I transferred some MR points to Velocity yesterday. :-|
That is a shame. I hope it wasn't a significant amount....

Fortunately not as it was a top up to 6900 & cash in lieu of a $499 PE fare.

I would have had to transfer some hundreds less if I'd done it today.

20% bonus - Big deal

Usually every year a few airlines have a 20% bonus

While this offer has zero value to me (my cards are direct earn), I really don't understand this attitude

Would you be happier if they did nothing or were taking benefits away?

I'm still waiting !!!!!!!

I've got about 25k Altitude points which will give me about an extra 2500 bonus Velocity points on transfer, so depending on the current point value, that's worth a bit under $200.

I haven't looked to see if they're worth more as an Altitude direct redemption or as a Velocity tnf but if I really wanted some Velocity points, just under 200 bucks for nicks is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick ;).

+1.

It works for me. I have shipped over points from my CBA card. Have been looking for good ways to use my CBA points, and Velocity is one of the better uses.

re: "Good things come to those that wait" = 20% CC Tfr Bonus

The offer has had its desired effect on me. I had not been considering transferring credit card points to Velocity, now I am.

Looks like the redemption was not a significant amount ;)

It's also a nice little way for Virgin to get some cash in the bank too, remember that all these points getting transferred cost the banks money and Virgin earns a little bit of $$ from it.

With my balance currently sitting in Velocity, I have no need to transfer points at the moment :lol:
