Hi all,

I currently have around 260,000 points to spend and want to get in a booking for myself and my wife before 25 May for sometime in the next 12 months .

Any pointers on suggestions on what location/locations might represent good value.
Ideally considering UK/European locations or East/West coast US locations.

Any help/thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Well in an effort to max out the spend on your points you can do the following cities for 110,000 points each on economy.

Code:
LA-DC	110000
LA-NY	110000
Paris	110000
London	110000

Otherwise you can go to closer destination at Business...

Code:
Ho Chi Minh	100000
Bangkok 100000
HK 100000
Shanghai 100000

Regards
Daniel

PS: This may be dependent on where you are flying from though.

With 260,000 pts for 2 people the world is your oyster. A one world round the world redemption is 130,000 pts each. This allows 35,000 miles, 5 stops on one world carriers (which opens up endless policies of getting to anywhere eg Europe via QF, BA or CX & Finnair). Only catch is that you require at least 2 non-QF carriers, which means you can't for example go to just South America without going in one direction via US or Europe and for Southern Africa you must go one way via HKG (or Europe).

Thanks for the feedback so far.
I should have mentioned, I'm departing from Sydney.

Dajop: that's what I was wanting to hear!
Would you happen to know if that type of trip plan is bookable(?) via qantas.com?
Should I be talking to a consultant over the phone?

Very much appreciate this valuable advice.

As this requires other one world carriers you can only book over the phone, so best to contact qantas FF centre. Also worth spending a little bit of time with a Oneworld Schedule before you call so you're armed with some alternatives when you call up as there are endless possibilities (eg Europe via HKG, SIN, BKK, Mumbai, Tokyo, Shanghai, Johannesburg, Santiago, Honolulu or LAX).

As the RTW Award ticket involves flying with OW partner airlines, then I don't believe you can book it via the web site.

As you can imagine, the QF Res staff are getting more used to convoluted itineraries and have better capabilities of searching and quicker than the web site.

Side question....
>A one world round the world redemption is 130,000 pts each
how many points needed after the 24th May?

Funnily enough post 24 May this is probably one of the best deals around. Will be 142,500 pts. Compare this to a SYD-LHR-JFK-SYD (with stopovers in both London & New York) on the services on QF/BA only which will cost 155,500 pts after 24 May (this costs 110,000 pts at the moment)!!!

Where is this information about RTW point requirements located on the web? Can someone please post a website I can reference.

Regards
Daniel

MELB to LA Rtn - March 2006

On 22 May (2 days ago) I was easily able to book 3 return tickets (260,000 pts) Melb to LA for travel in Mar 2006. There were lots of alternative dates also on offer for this same period. The 'doomsday' articles in last weekends papers were right off the mark in my case. :D

I have about 214000 points available and am thinking of utilising a oneworld RTW ticket in the third quarter of 2006. I want to go to Germany (Frankfurt area) and visit a friend in Boston, USA. As this is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity I would like to make a stopover at somewhere a little out of the way. Any thoughts or suggestions? What is a good website to work out the best way to utilise the oneworld RTW FF award? Paul in Melbourne.

Have you been to Africa? A stopover in Johannesburg, with a trip out to Kruger National Park, or (if you have the budget) a private game reserve would be worth considering, and (if you have time) somewhere else like Cape Town or Victoria Falls. 35,000 miles is long way, so Africa and South America are valid alternatives to the traditional routes via SE Asia & the Pacific.

Good distance calculator at http://www.bestflights.com.au/airportdist/calc.php couple with Oneworld timetable (as linked in a post above)

Thanks for the tip; I went to South Africa in 1974 to see the country and experience what it was like under Apartheid. Unfortunately, it is not a place I am in a hurry to visit in 2005. The website will be very helpful. Thanks again. Paul in Melbourne, Australia
