Government to halve flight prices in $1.2bn tourism plan

Next Saturday, 31 July is the last date to book the half-price flights, for travel until end of September.

There are still lots of half-price seats available on some routes, e.g. MEL-HBA, MEL-LST, MEL-ADL, ADL-KGC or ADL-OOL.

think we need a round 2

you reckon they went thru the whole $1.2B???

I'd think not, either way I'm in agreeance of a round 2 once Syd back to covid zero (ha) then again some other stated will be infected.

My cancelled bookings might be in that lot. Several 1/2 price bookings and the whole lot were truncated or cancelled due to lockdowns or shutouts. I'm over booking anything now...

cheers skip

Yep, about to cancel mine too. This makes 6 trips cancelled.
Honestly feels like I'm never going anywhere. Feel like i'm existing and not living.

How many routes are available that are currently unaffected by restrictions though? I just don't feel like giving QF (more) money for trips that will have to be cancelled because of quarantine restrictions in either or both directions. And my crystal ball for what the situation will be in September is faulty. My predictions about July turned out to be 100% wrong - all trips cancelled and still waiting for my QF refund.

I am also reluctant to book anymore future travel especially now lockdowns will continue to at least the end of the year when vaccination rates get high enough for some states to feel safe.

No thanks. Virgin and Qantas have enough of my $$ sitting in travel credits as it is.
we did book some 1/2 price trips but they have been cancelled with the lockdowns and I just can’t take the chance booking anything else.

The problem is confidence though. Until we have enough vaccinations, the states will keep using lockdowns to suppress the virus spread.
lockdowns mean cancelled trips. Lots of people are losing confidence in their ability to actually complete a trip

I agree with the problem being confidence. Another part of my reluctance is that QF don't pay prompt refunds. If they gave the money back in 72 hours like Air NZ have done twice for me, I might be more inclined to risk my money with QF. But when I know I'll have to wait up to 8 weeks for my money back, it doesn't make me want to give QF more money on the offchance the trip will happen.

A few months ago I spent way too much time on working out how to make use of the discounted fares to only now be cancelling them every few weeks. Maybe airlines will have incentives themselves in the future to entice people to book again when the time comes.

I agree because that’s your own opinion and feelings but I guess look to the evidence - QF, JQ and Rexy were running at over 100% domestic capacity so people are absolutely travelling when they can…

I know it's not apples and apples, but July 4 holidays in the US had traffic higher than 2019 this year so I absolutely agree.

Finally took advantage of a half price fare last night - $55 MEL-LST on VA.

We are waiting for QF to reload their VIC/Tassie flights and rebook all our staff over for an event 😊

(If anyone sees them pop up let me know! They are still on the skeleton Covid schedule)

Always check the AFL schedule. They tend to put more flights on when Hawthorn or North Melbourne are playing at LST or HBA respectively. They are both playing in Tassie this weekend.VA has put on an extra BNE-LST-BNE flight tomorrow as it is the Lions playing Hawthorn on Sunday.

Nothing extra from MEL yet.Neither playing in TAS next weekend but Hawthorn scheduled in LST in 2 weeks time.

Looks like QF has extended it by a week?

Since VA has generally been cheaper (MEL/OOL for $75 each way, MEL/SYD $49) my travel bank has absorbed a lot of transactions, in, out.

My last effort was an OOL booking for Saturday two weeks ago - border barrier went up on the preceding Wednesday.

I have made one more effort for mid August.🙏
