Are the outbound from Tas fares “everywhere else” sale fares?
Nope

There're half price based on February prices. The alleged HALF PRICE fares on Virgin seem to be about 20% under the week in week out usual sale fare levels from what I can see.
Taxpayers conned for a billion plus, once again by airlines as I assume QF is doing the same.
This subsidy might actually be the most financially efficient way of supporting the industry.I fly SYD-ADL all the time. $110 is pretty much normally buyable on Virgin. Including February this year and February last year.
These were $90.
Nothing like HALF PRICE.
It is outright deceit to call them HALF PRICE. Covid discount - Yes. But they are using HALF PRICE.
If Carlton United offered HALF PRICE beer as a COVID busting promo and took off 20% they'd be whopped by the ACCC.
Syd ade aren't on the destination list of half price under the gov subsidy.I fly SYD-ADL all the time. $110 is pretty much normally buyable on Virgin. Including February this year and February last year.

I would agree it's not optimal. But that doesn't mean inefficient.Yes it is another billion plus handed over to airlines.

Maybe read the promo 1st, see what destinations are half price.
Your Syd ade just normal sale fare.
Outright deceit to not read & understand a promo then to criticize it.

SYD-ADL was never $180 average cheapest in Feb and SYD-ADL-SYD was and is part of this alleged deal.
And welcome to posting on AFFHello! I got Melbourne- Uluru return for $285 ,
The 50% discount was never off the cheapest airfare, in the bowels of the Media release it was announced.SYD-ADL was never $180 average cheapest in Feb and SYD-ADL-SYD was and is part of this alleged deal.
The discounts will be off the average fare
Why thank you very much! Long time listener , first time caller , thought I should show my faceAnd welcome to posting on AFF
And why should it be, if people are normally prepared to buy at a range of prices, average seems an appropriate measure. It’s certainly not stopping people from snapping them up, which was the intent. The 50% discount was never off the cheapest airfare, in the bowels of the Media release it was announced.
Half price is indeed misleading when it is half a made up price. The average would be made up of various e-deal and flex fare prices, and probably J fares also. It was never claimed to be 1/2 the cheapest available fare.
