Subjunctive rules! ‘Were’! ‘Was’ is not subjective but is common usage and is wrong. Were I to contribute to this thread, I'd ask should I be saying,
"Were I to contribute to this thread...." or
"If I were to contribute to this thread...." or
"If I was to contribute to this thread.....".
I've seen some Facebook quizzes saying that using "If I was...." in the subjunctive tense is correct, and that "If I were...." is incorrect.
But when I've Googled it, I came up with sites saying that using "If I was...." in the subjunctive tense is incorrect, and that "If I were...." is correct.
Logically, as the preposition "If" creates a subjunctive form, shouldn't "was" be the appropriate verb to be a true alternative to the known correct form of the subjunctive, namely, "Were I to ........."?
Otherwise "If I were...." is a redundant version of "Were I to...".
Were there to be any thoughts, I'd appreciate them.

Renato
Interesting discussionI just heard that now people say, "chomping at/on the bit". I would still say, "champing at the bit".
As it is an inflammation of the tendon, I would have picked tendonitis.Tendonitis or tendinitis?
Both appear to be correct.
There's also 'Tindernitis'.Tendonitis or tendinitis?

You just made my eyes hurt. Was looking at meat in Woolies and noticed the packet instruction to put it in an “ovenable” container. That’s just ugly.
Yes but that’s only for people on Tinder!
You could be lucky, or not. What if the soft tissue injury was caused by grinding?
Pls RSVP me if you know the answer.

I blame this web site of course for refusing to allow people to correct mistakes.
