Grammar Discussions

The majority of the meat I buy is first frozen then thawed in the fridge during the day then cooked in the evening. I don't notice much difference although I do have to say the ~2 year frozen steak/pork chops towards the end of last year were not crash hot.
I agree with coco50. Frozen is ok if you are not concerned with taste and quality but if you can pick up some good meat on the way home it's definitely worth it.

A real food crime to freeze meat and then defrost it. The meat dries out. I buy meat as I need it.

Yep. I agree.
I did get a tip from a butcher, he suggested I wrap the meat in baking paper first, then (and I have one of these) use your vacuum pack machine to package and store your meat .

Thanks for that Warks. Here I was hoping not to be underwhelmed when I could just be whelmed instead.

Umm, Grammar discussion - not cooking discussion.

But the rules of grammar and spelling as well as punctuation must apply when talking about cooking, otherwise the text becomes difficult to understand and the meaning can become unclear!

Seen on facebook. In response to cancellation of all train services on a particular route, I politician decided to remind everyone that they've been demanding line duplication for a while.

I had to ask if he wanted double railway tracks on the same line, or if he wanted to duplicate the existing line elsewhere.

It only has one meaning as far as I'm aware - to duplicate the existing track to make it double (or multiples).

Yes, duplicate has one meaning: to make an exact copy of. So if we have a single track that runs trains in both directions with passing loops and dual direction signals and etc. Making an exact copy would mean we now have two single tracks that run trains in both directions, with all associated passing loops etc. I doubt that duplication was required rather than making it a dual track line, with trains travelling in a single direction only on each track.

"Doneness" is (I think) an Americanism, I have found it used a lot in Sous vide cooking instructions in the American Sous Vide sites.
I am not usually a fan of American English, However in this instance, I think it aids in the description.
the context is in how long, and at what temperature you cook your steak in the sous vide to achieve the targeted "Doneness" ....

Sometimes I just wonder about people posting on Facebook. This below is a direct copy and paste. What I've noticed is comments as incomprehensible as this get likes but no one ever seems to comment on their incomprehensibility. So not just the posters but the responders. I guess no one wants to get called out as a grammar naz_ or the like but what about actually writing something that can be understood?

I'd guess they know each other and have discussed this in real life so it is understandable for them, but not for outsiders. Having said that I think I could decipher it with some context. In those case, there isn't a need to call it out. Or the friendship is worth more than the trouble caused by the poor writing.
