Greta Thunberg speech

I’ve heard volcanoes and earthquakes are very detrimental to wildlife and people as well. I don’t think we humans can bear responsibility for those things.

No we can't. Totally illogical and irrelevant posts on the other hand ...

Hey Renato - where does she say the world will end in 10 years? I posted a link to the full transcript.

And CO2 pollution and the subsequent climate changes are already killing people and wildlife.
References please.

Apparently Greta’s boat was crewed by a full complement of racing yacht crew. They flew back to Europe😝😝😝.

I think more CO2 there than if she flew herself?🤔

And Arnie terminator loaning her his Electric Hummer so she does not have to use fossil fuel. I wonder how it recharges🤔. Would like to know if Greta is for or against dams or nuclear

Not just people and wildlife! ... A spectacular example at Mammoth, California. Bit annoyed that i can't find my own pics when I visited, for this great example of the deadly effects of CO2 on plants.

And probably the whole time they are drinking Fiji Water.

How leaders of the pacific ocean island states can have a go at Australia, whilst they ship drinking water across the globe, is just one of the more sad or hilarious ironies that abound in this whole thing.

That of course is not the Scientific committees report and there are several problems with it.
For example sea level rise is not uniform.
And a lot of the rise in sea level is based on a paper that has since been retracted due to at least 2 major errors.
Then the high confidence in increased tropical cyclonic winds.Since Cyclone strengths are a direct measure of wind speeds and there has been a reduction in frequency of severe cyclones this seems improbable.

Are you referring to the growing nation of Kiribati? :) Or the tens of thousands of 'climate refugees' that were supposed to have come to Australia by now?

No, nor was I referring directly to Tuvalu, who have an even more embarrassing stance on sea levels. ;)

(for those unaware, when scientists from NZ actually measured the tuvalu islands over the past few decades, they found that the acreage was actually growing, due to the natural dynamics of reef atolls. The government there dismissed these anti-Climate Horror findings as the locals were "not consulted" during the research)

"People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing.

“We are in the beginning of a mass extinction. And all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. "

Sounds like the end of the world to me.

"With today’s emissions levels, our remaining CO2 budget will be gone in less than 8.5 years."

Well, that's pretty much it in 8.5 years then, mass extinction will follow.

"“The popular idea of cutting our emissions in half in 10 years only gives us a 50 per cent chance of staying below 1.5C degrees, and the risk of setting off irreversible chain reactions beyond human control."

But if we do the impossible now, we'll have a 50 percent chance of avoiding the mega disaster.

Please feel free to correct me, if this doesn't equate to the end of the world is nigh in 8.5 to 10 years. That's what all that tipping point stuff is about - a rapid descent to catastrophe.

Please feel free to let me know where people are suffering and dying due to climate change. Should be a simple exercise.
Regards,
Renato

Time now to close this thread. I don't think anything new can be said about this divisive topic which has nothing to do with travel or aviation. Thanks to all contributors for keeping this discussion civil.
