Hand luggage only - under 7KG with a rollaboard - how?

The weight of the rollerboard is usually the rate-limiting step.

I've succeeded in doing several AONE4's of, say, 2 weeks duration utilising a Samsonite Cosmolite 20 inch spinner, in addition to either a light-weight backpack or leather laptop bag / brief case. The net weight of the bag is ~ 2.2kg; most are about 4kg, so a big saving from the outset.

Both bags would generally weigh about 6.5 kg, with the brief case containing Macbook air, phone, paperwork, LAG's and various electrical chargers, in addition to leisure reading material. I forsake taking magazines as they can weigh quite substantial amounts.

I find BNE staff - both International, as well as Domestic->International checkin at the domestic - to be particularly strict at check-in with the weight of carry-on. There is usually a degree of surprise (and may I say disappointment sometimes) when it comes in under target.

+1

BNE Intl are incredibly strict. I had my carry on weighed and searched going out looking for hidden LAG's!

In the past there was a QF CSA on the premium check in desk, who made everyone weigh their carry on.

I think 7kg is a reasonable amount.

I wish QF in particular would consistently enforce size & weight restrictions across the whole network.

Ahh yep. Sorry, my statements weren't connected.

What I meant was that I don't have problems coming in under 7kg.

And in a semi unrelated matter I wish QF would enforce their restrictions more consistently (whatever those restrictions may be for the class/service you are flying).

When I can get away with it I typically travel with two bags - a clothes bag and laptop bag. The clothes bag is a high sierra convertible backback/wheely bag. I think 2 kg empty. Sometimes I think it goes over 7kg (especially for 2 weeks worth of clothes), but the bag does look small and light - it never seems to get measured or weighted even when they are checking other people.

I also use the high sierra, and the removable daypack becomes my personal it in which I have laptop etc.

Nearly all of the times I have flown for work, I have had to check baggage because of tools and equipment; not really any way around that, for weight or content. Laptops are certainly lighter these days, but there is a lot of extra electronics that gets stuffed in the bag. My laptop bag was about 7kg loaded...now I just have a bigger backpack...

And for leisure travel, kids and all their stuff means there is simply no way you can go without luggage in the hold!

I think I can only dream about a single 7kg bag!
