Ok just rang up to do a fake booking on Adl-Mel-Syd return booked in "U" and was quoted 64,000 points with $415 spend how does that sound? I'm soooo lost with what things should cost its not funny

The Classic rate for that routing is 48,000 points and some $140.

Ideally, you would want to pay the same amount of points (48K) plus some more $, but probably not $415.

My experience suggests it is possible to do just that, by calling back and strike lucky with your 2nd / 3rd CSRs.

Yes, I just phoned the number and got a lady who efficiently booked my ASA (with just a little guidance from me). Exactly what I would have received with an online booking, plus a nice conversation with a pleasant lady. Surely that's an improvement?

Wow, I admire your 'sunny side up' optimism. Yes, it's an improvement for you, but not for all the others - including me - who, after nearly 4 weeks now, are still getting appalling wrong service from Qantas.

It will be an actual improvement when Qantas consistently delivers the service they promise.

A couple of points here, timmitch. Assume this is a status run and you don't need to actually spend any time in SYD? The routing ADL-MEL-SYD gets 160 SCs. Better to go ADL-SYD-MEL return (if the "enhanced" system will allow you to go on this indirect route.) This will net you 200 SCs.

Points required for your original route, as legroom says should be able to be reduced to 48000 + cash. Your quote of 64000 + $415 is WAY over the top.

The alternative, ADL-SYD-MEL return use to be done for 32000 points + $350, a bit cash heavy but quite frugal with points for so many SCs. Be interested to find out if this is still available.

I will be in Syd for the week. But was also under the impression that I couldn't get it any lower. Will ring again tonight and try again

Sorry if this is OT, but has anyone done a JASA on JQ? Wondering if it is booked into 'Business' or 'Business Max' - for the obvious reason :P
The QF website does not explicitly say and I can't figure out which booking class it is booked into

I think we should give some serious thought to establishing a list of sorts on the minimum points plus pay of the common or garden Dom and Int ASA's at the "classic award levels" prior to the online booking removal.

I've got a spreadsheet with about 100 of these listed already which I never got around to moving into that fore-mentioned spreadsheet. Now that ASAs seem to be going down the gurgler, I'd be happy to try to add them to it... it just may not be for a little while until I get some time to do so. They're almost entirely domestic though.

Edit: I just did a quick copy-paste job into a new sheet in "the" spreadsheet (for those that know about it and have access). Hope it helps.

Now that ASAs seem to be going down the gurgler, I'd be happy to try to add them to it... it just may not be for a little while until I get some time to do so. Tempting but not necessarily. It refers to over-confident people who have an inflated sense of their superior abilities/knowledge, so they know they don't need to check anything. Hence, they are unaware that their performance is deteriorating. The converse also occurs.
Examples of both in this thread - mostly for the better.

Will need to do the book over the phone for a JASA, with all the flying I've done (only in Y) will be 400SC short from getting gold for a third year in a row.
I had one planned for CBR-MEL-PER-KTA-PER-SYD-CBR for 72,000 + $350 for 380SC. Fly out at 7am and return back to CBR around 8am the next day with no overnight stay required anywhere.

Hi dmcullo.... Hope this helps. I am doing this trip as a SC run in a few weeks to get to WP too...I booked the day after the changeover QF481 Mel-Per 6.50pm arr 9.10pm (overnight) - Depart Saturday morning Perth - Broome on QF1074. Return Broome via Perth to Melbourne a few days later on QF1073 and QF776. The 280 SC's are correct. On my original booking I made the mistake of coming back Broome-Syd-Mel and left me 10 SC's short but a quick phone call sorted that out and changed flights. Was 144000 points and about $508.00

Thanks for the reply. Mine was also 72000 points and just over $500. CSA name was Michelle and although she had never done a JASA before, she was happy to learn on the fly. Only hiccup in booking was 3500 assist fee that was quickly removed. :)

I just booked a BNE-AKL and AKL-SYD-BNE for this weekend. Plenty of classic awards in Y and J. J Classic Award was 72000 plus $213. Rang Plat line and JASA was 72000 plus $600 or 128000 all inclusive. Whilst deciding whether to go all inclusive or not, the all inclusive price jumped to 160000 points :-(. So went with the 72k plus $600 for 200 sc's. coughpy deal but need to be in NZ and the 200sc put me over the WP requal with 8 months to spare.

As a side note could have flown QF Y RT for less than $450 or J in business saver for $1000 RT.......

So for $400 difference you wasted 72000 points,a waste imo

True, very poor deal, but sitting on 600k plus points, and usually fly BFOD so no chance of using them for upgrades. Also needed 200 SC's to requalify WP, and about 18 months away from LTG. This also means I can now focus my earn on DJ.

OK

3 attempts, 3 fails and a good amount of scotch now consumed.

Trying to do this on a CBR - BNE rtn for myself, wife and son in October.

I've asked to book a classic award as an any seat award (an x class fare).

If I do a classic award on the website it's 48000pts + $306
An Any seat award is 48000pts + $744
My quotes over the phone using 48000pts have included a cash component of $763, $753 and $762.96.


Am I just having a streak of bad luck, am I asking the wrong question?? None of the phone people knew what I was talking about.

I spoke with a very helpful and polite lady at QF today using the number in this thread. I think she had been recently trained on ASAs as she was effusive in her attempts to help me. I was after a FASA MEL-LHR in June 2014 (want to get in while they still exist). I was quoted 192k points and about $680. The Classic Award was 192k points and about $450. However, the lady told me that, due to EK-matching requirements, there is now a $300 cancellation fee for ASAs and, given the reasonable likelihood that I'll not end up taking the flight, I thought this was too high. So I opted for an F Classic Award. Now to work out how to get home from LHR.

Wow! Another nail (they are coming thick & fast) in the coffin of my QF loyalty & QF spend.

I do not understand how Qantas can justify this as nil change to T & C... ?? I am off to read the T & C about 3 months notice yet again! Then perhaps fire off an online feedback form to Qantas expressing my disappointment in them, which will no doubt result in a template response of platitudes similar to the last few.

Such a shame :(
