I just don't understand, as some people have done it??? Gizzard advised he had done Mel-Syd-Asp??

correct, and turtlemichael? managed an indirect one as well.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I am not aware of MEL-xSYD-ADL ever being a valid routing for xASA's.

You need to try the more esoteric HBA-xSYD-CBR type routes where the is no direct origin/destination flight.

I suppose the old TSV-BNE-DRW will be 'repriced' now as well.

serfty done this 1 as a JASA a couple of time cost was 16000 points and ~$300 - low on points high dollar cost

<snip>

If people are still getting agents who have no idea about this, I think its time to name them so that at least RR can feedback to their teams, and maybe find out where the gap is in their training process and fix it!! It may not be their fault they don't know about it, but it should still be addressed.

Anyone who does this is sure to get a 'Like' from Red Roo and the particular call agent complimented. After 3 weeks, there is no way that the widespread "don't know about ASAs" etc etc is an accident. I suggest it is a deliberate policy of management NOT to adequately train / advise phone agents about the new procedure, so people like us will get totally p**ed off about the whole thing & give up, allowing them to 'justify' the axing of MASA / ASA at Classic rates in a month or so.

"Conspiracy theory". Yeah, sure. But think about this. Say they were introducing a new fee or surcharge. Does anyone thing that Qantas management would allow 3 weeks to go by and still not have their agents trained to impose the charge? of course not. They would be onto operators like hawks to make sure that the fee was imposed from day 1. But when phone operators are meant to deal with customers seeking the quite legal, allowable MASAs, but newly required to be over the phone, mysteriously the training is way too difficult to implement, even after 3 weeks.

As I said before - remember what Red Roo has said before about training etc and indeed ASAs. We are all being taken for mugs.

yes almost everyone has, but we want to know if it can STILL be done using the phone method or whether the points goes up to 24000 now

That may be the key.

And I'm off to check my history but my memory tells me that I have certainly been to Melbourne via Sydney, and indeed Canberra

Interesting, one I booked online two months ago was 32K + ~$300 round trip.

In february I paid 32k plus $255 incl cc fee for round trip

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I can confirm Mel-xSyd-ADL was once a valid routing and cost was around 16k points + $350ish. Booked this flight one day before the change to hit PG.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

This is an interesting one. My records, which only go back 13 months on the QF website confirm that I paid 16,000 points and 93.18 to get to melbourne in J, but 16,000 points and 312.36 to get back via Canberra. So you could book it BUT there was an extra dollar component. So I defer to Serfty (could it have been otherwise) it WAS a valid routing BUT it wasn't at the cheapest rate.
Sadly my Melbourne via Sydney must have been more than 13 months ago, so I cannot comment on that.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I am needing a bit of help from those more learned than I.

Encouraged by my recent JASA success (#222), I am looking at a JASA MEL-PER-BME return for late August. I have done this one before and I assume it will still earn 280SC as per the good ole days? If so, this will get me over the line for WP for the first time!

My main question is this, is there a way for me to break the journey 3/4 of the way thru and spend a night in Perth and still book it as a normal JASA MEL-BME return?

My accountant is in Perth and I was hoping to stay overnight in Perth, then meet with him next morning , then fly back to MEL that arvo. I remember reading something about limitations on breaking a journey but I can't recall the specifics.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Apologies if I have posted in the wrong place. Mods feel free to move this post to a more appropriate thread if one exists)

There was lots of interesting options eg ool-bne via syd but the dollar cost was higher but not outrageous

Yes, it is still possible but you have to remember the new paradigm.

That is, it is not possible to bring the 'slider' to the left bringing the points down to Classic levels.

Those who claimed success with their roundabouts should qualify their routings vis a vis the minimum point requirements.

My roundabout request today could have been booked provided I had agreed to that paradigm.

I did not as it would bring the points per SC to 400.

Maybe I am still living in the pre-June era, slow to catch up.

Ok. Thanks. This has helped me understand what's going on. I'll keep experimenting.

Hi dmcullo.... Hope this helps. I am doing this trip as a SC run in a few weeks to get to WP too...I booked the day after the changeover QF481 Mel-Per 6.50pm arr 9.10pm (overnight) - Depart Saturday morning Perth - Broome on QF1074. Return Broome via Perth to Melbourne a few days later on QF1073 and QF776. The 280 SC's are correct. On my original booking I made the mistake of coming back Broome-Syd-Mel and left me 10 SC's short but a quick phone call sorted that out and changed flights. Was 144000 points and about $508.00

144000 for 1 person? That's absurd
