Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Apologies I took "well over a $1000" to be a $1000.
Overall I agree that's pretty steep.

EDIT: I've just looked up the costs I paid for my rtn FASA and it was $800 SYD-MEL-LHR and $1400 LHR-MEL-SYD. Very similar to your initial JASA outlay.

That is about $600 in LHR taxes on top of the already-ridiculoius QF taxes. I wish QF would fly to another god damn city in Europe, anything but the forsaken, tax-ridden, day-light robbery UK airports.

I'm booked in May on a JASA QF11 / 107 SYD - LAX- JFK, has anyone successfully upgraded to F for money or points?
If so how much was the upgrade?
Would love to do the trip in F. Will be the only chance I ever get.

Once you have found F awards availability, call up and tell them you want to move from J to F (make sure you tell them it is a JASA booking and you want to keep the booking so that you will earn points and SC). Don't know about the US, but a few weeks ago a one way LHR-MEL was quoted around $850 for upgrade from JASA to FASA.

I guess it's time to call - it's now the 21st day since posting zeroes and it looks like the auto fix has missed this one. The original booking was made in June 2013.

I would have just sent an email ASAP instead of waiting... that's what I did for two FASAs and all points/SCs credited within a day or two.

Haven't contacted anyone yet - if I had urgent usage for the points I would have been more proactive.

I'll try the call - the issue should be self explanatory to the CSA without further supporting documentation.

Don't want to start a new thread so I will ask here: Did anyone cancelled an international MASA lately and managed to get the 5K points cancellation fee waived?

I cancelled one the other week BNE-SYD-SIN-BNE and was slugged $300 ... no point penalty.

Depends on the fare conditions.

Not all international MASA bookings have the same fare conditions?
I could only find general ASA fare conditions under my booking which says 5K points cancellation fee.
I read on an old thread MASA are supposed to be fully refundable but maybe the rules have changed since.

Wow that's bad! Since when QF charge money for award cancelations? I thought it's only points.

I've also changed one (F) BNE-SYD-LHR that also copped a $300 charge. The change was made prior to June 30 2014 for a flight coming up in April.

This is very high IMO. Was that done according to the T&Cs on your booking?

I think the general experience was $300 fee for FASA and $0 for JASA (of course there were some variations form time to time, but this was what used to be reported most often).

I found it quoted in the T&C buried deep in the webpage. It must be a bucket class issue/thingy (?) some attract it, others don't. It's beyond me!

SWMBO & I are looking forward to our return (F) BNE-SYD-LHR, recouping the $300 via champagne flutes ;) Not to mention the 920SC we'll both pocket :D

Penalties vary depending on the fare rules. In some cases like transpacific generally were fully refundable with no penalty. For many bookings to europe and asia $300 penalties were typical.

Because of this variance I got in the habit of taking and saving a soft copy of the fare rules during the booking process.

ASAs are treated as revenue fares and not classic awards. Just like not all revenue fares have the same conditions, the same applies to ASAs.
You may have had the two mixed up, which is not unusual because there have been several reports of QF employees getting the two mixed up.
Classic awards are the only type to have a 5000 point cancellation fee. ASAs certainly don't; you don't see revenue fares with such a fee.

It's all very confusing. I read mixed reports on MASA cancellations with no penalty at all, then some with 5K points and now with $300. All were international bookings.
I cancelled domestic before with no penalty but I guess it's a completely different story.
Can't find any condition in my booking saying $300 but I do see 5K points.
Will have to call QF and start negotiating...

If you look at this entire thread you would see this issue extensively discussed. There are posts whet people have asked the CSA to read the cancellation and other applicable fare rules back to them during the booking process.
