Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Nov 13 | Apr 14 | F for int sectors, J for dom sector | LHR > SYD > ADL | 192,000 | $1,508.70 + CC fee $30 | 480 SC

Rang the platinum line and spoke to John. He seemed a little unsure at first but was easily guided in the right direction. All went swimmingly until he said "yes we know platinum members like these because they earn their status credits, but I think they're going to be phased out":shock:

I believe the co-payment could have been reduced if you had booked the SYD-ADL as a separate JASA? I booked a FASA SYD-DXB-SYD and wanting to add the MEL-SYD-MEL legs in J was increasing the co-payment by around $700!

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just booked a MASA - "Z" class, LAX-BNE for June 2014. Have checked the e-Ticket and fare basis is ZBPASROW. For 2 seats, Classic was 144k points plus $770, the MASA was 144k points plus $1155. So an extra $193 per person for the SCs and points. Took 10 minutes - Lauren helped me. She knew exactly what I was trying to do....my only regret is not asking if she could release "U" class! ;)

What are the fare conditions regarding cancellations/refunds for your PE ASA?

Agent indicated no cancellations allowed and $280 AUD change fee for date changes. As I can't recall what they used to be, I have no way of checking if that is accurate.

Can you check the fare rules on the booking (perhaps by clicking "Premium Economy"?)

I've tried that on all of my revenue, ASA and AAward bookings and when I click on the fare class it just links to the travel class information on the QF website. For Y, J and F.

Unfortunate that there is no way of finding out - unless they can send a copy of the HTML (non PDF) e-ticket with the fare rules?

This does not show on a number of bookings I have had. Change and cancel options blocked also.

That's why I asked the question as I have seen the same variance.

Back when they could be booked online, I endeavoured to generate a .PDF of the rules in case of the need for future reference.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just did another call-up ASA in U. Had a good CSO who said that I must be one of those in the know. He did however try to charge me a 3,500 pt booking fee. Ref to ROQ 7740 sorted that. I asked for the fare conds. Cancellation (before travel commences) incurs a 5000 pt penalty, but changes are FOC.

See, I don't get this and I reckon part of it is they are making the "conditions" up as they go along just based on other instances where such fees apply. When these could be booked online, there wasn't any penalty for cancelling. Why now? Supposedly nothing has changed other than the booking method.

Edit: Yes, I should clarify. My comments relate to Domestic JASAs, which didn't seem to have cancellation or change fees.

Some JASA's had cancellation penalties, but they tended to go hand in hand with those that also had change penalties.

I would ask for the CSA to read the fare rules by rote - I am confident the 5000 pt penalty was not showing on their screen.

This sort of issue existed with CSA even before mASA were taken offline:

I hadn't realised the online ASAs had no cancellation fees. That was a better fare cond than the Classic awards where I lost 5000 pts each on a couple of cancellations.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

The fare rules in my 2-3 INT MASAs do not show anything.

Clicking the link just takes you back to QF front page extolling the good stuff about Business / First Class flying.

Red Roo has not got back to us on this issue which we raised some months ago.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Tried skimming through this thread but couldn't easily find what I was looking for.
Can someone please tell me what my response should be if they try to charge me the telephone booking fee ?

I recall ROQ 4470 or something like that ?
What does that actually mean ?

See my post #1504 above. If the CSO tries to charge a booking fee say its not applicable (because the ASA cannot be booked online) and refer them to the Qantas document ROQ 7740. Works a treat - probably as its true! They will charge a $7 CC fee though if you use a credit card.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Your CSR was incorrect!

In the last week, I had cancelled two INT MASA (booked post July 2013) and got full points and $$ back with no penalty whatsoever.

The points were then used to book better timed MASA flights.

True, I came across one indecisive CSR who muttered something 'I need to check'.....

I waited for 3 min and then HUACA, all was sweet afterwards.

...
Almost certainly the CSR was incorrect about the 5k points.

However not all mASA's are created equal and some (especially international) may indeed have change/cancellation/service fees.

Is there any reference that says cancellation for a DOM MASA doesn't incur a penalty?
