re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Nov-13 | Dec-13 | Business | ADL-BNE-TSV return | 72,000 | $151.37 | $7 cc fee | 240 (+120 bonus) pts

Check your activity statement where the points are deducted to make sure that it actually says "ANY SEAT AWARD"... that looks a lot like a Classic, but I don't have enough points to check the cash co-payment right now.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Check to make sure you havn't ended up with a Classic award booking. Mine isn't fixed yet.

Hi Did you manage to get this fixed yet?

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Try again but politely suggest the CSR has a look at "Right on Q 7740".

CSR rang *me* today which surprised me no end, and got my status trip booked ADL-BNE-TSV in J for 72k points plus $157. I tried arguing it should be 48k points + ~$350, but she was adamant it could not possibly be that and I just didn't know how to argue the point. [Sorry, I am newbie at this.]

Would have been preferred to pay $350 and keep the 24k points for another status trip but only had until 28th until my SC bonus expires and was not liking my chances of making a booking by myself lol

If there is a way of arguing the toss, I'd be happy to call the bookings people and trying it. :-)

As ketsuzei has said, check your statement. If it is incorrect as far as not being an ASA or minimum points, then send Red Roo a PM to follow up.

Woohoo. Another surprise phone call, thank you Red Roo wherever you are! The CSA fixed the points (48k), charged my card the new cash amount ($363) and I am all set. Once this one is flown I can go again for GOLD GOLD GOLD....

Thanks ketsuzei and Jessica Tam and everyone else for your helpful advice. :)

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I have just got off the phone from speaking with Alison in BNE. She was very conversant with the process. So much so that when I said "I would like to book an ASA into U" and she asked from "Where to where"? so quickly I thought she had misheard me. Nope, right on it. 11 minutes all up, with some idle chit chat thrown in.

MEL-ADL-ASP, 24,000 points and $197.10 +cc fee. Incidentally, the maximum points is 46,005.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I haven't been contributing much of late because my latest bookings have been duplicates of currently available information.

But over the past couple of weeks, I've cancelled a couple of JASAs, changed a HKG-SYD-CBR to a HKG-SYD-ADL, and booked seven new JASAs over five different phone calls.

Everything has gone well. Even had a "I think I spoke to you yesterday, Mr. K". My general impression is that there is now a better process in place for those CSRs who are less familiar with the process. One actually read the menu options aloud... a potential pitfall that I think someone has mentioned before is that the 3,500 fee has to be actively waived... it really should be the default option.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Excellent experience tonight. Similar experience to JessicaTam above in that there was immediate recognition of what I was asking for and very quick implementation. 12 minutes.
I just snuck in the booking in time for 50% bonus SCs. I've been busy and nearly forgot the deadline
Details in the other thread, but really they fit with others already in the spreadsheet.
Possibly the best experience I have had booking these with the new system.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I had a great experience this week, I found myself with a first world problem and my FASAs SYD-HKG and HKG-SYD were going to expire on the 12 month rule, so I was intent on cancelling them and getting a full refund on one and refund less $375 or something on the other, when the helpful lady advised she could just re ticket them and give me another 12 months. I think she sneakily increased the fare by $1 to make this happen, but I was more than happy to pay the difference. No phone assistance fees either.

I'm now good until this time next year :)

Didn't need the SCs as I ended up in the middle on no mans land at around 1650 SCs this year.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

well done !

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the 12-month rule ?

Vouchers have 12-mo date expiry but FASA ?

Thanks

Qantas Industry Sale Site - Fares - Qantas Ticket Validity

It's pretty standard - International tickets must be re-issued within 12 months of original ticketing date, but can be reissued for dates up to a further 12 months ahead. This is different from Domestic tickets.

So there must be FASA available on that route for the tickets to be reissued then.

If so, he/she must have been lucky with timing.

So in theory you can change the date and have it reticketed and "extend" it for an extra 12 months.. then do it over and over again..?

I doubt its supposed to work like that - any reissue needs to be done within one year of original ticketing. Conceivably no further re-issue would comply with such rules. (I am not indicating such does not happen though.)

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Hi felow AFF.. have a quick question (or two) to ask..

I am looking at SYD-HKG-SYD towards end of Dec, and have a current "Request" in the system to release an X class, so I can make an award booking. Should i be requesting for this to be issused as ASA? if so, should I call them now before the request is processed or wait till it comes through and then ask them?

Also, should I be checking for JASA .. if they can release an "U" class?

Thanks

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

From what we have seen here, that is quite ... unlikely to happen.

Keep us updated, please

It would indeed work like that as it is a new ticket with a new expiry. The trick is the fare must be greater than the original fare paid. The operator fudged this by $1 to get around this. yield will be happy they made another buck from me :)
