Thanks

So there must be FASA available on that route for the tickets to be reissued then.

If so, he/she must have been lucky with timing.

Correct but one year out FASAs are plentiful, before all the AFFers snap 'em up ;)

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Little drama, my partner rang up to day to get BNE - SYD the first time he got referred back to the website and he rang me saying you can now do it on the website. I went and showed him the difference in cost and he tried the call center again, this time he said the lady knew exactly what she was talking about came up with the right cost value, but then insisted upon the $35 (3000 point) fee? He said shouldn't it be waived and she stated that they've changed the system so that it now enforces the fee? Does this mean that Qantas have got rid of the booking fee being waived? Or is it just poor training again of the staff at the call center? His now booked it and I'm going to send a PM to red roo to see if I can get the fee reversed.

Good idea PM'ing Red Roo, please let us know how this is resolved...

Based on what I've heard from people speaking aloud, the default option seems to be that it is charged, and the operator has to tick a box (or something along those lines) to waive it.

*3500 point fee. I am said partner :P

This is the latest note in the Special Information at the bottom of the Any Seat Award flight info page.

[SUP]≠[/SUP] Bookings made or completed with the help of a consultant attract a 6,000-point fee per person (including children and infants occupying a seat) per booking for international bookings. The fee is 3,500-point fee for all other flights. If booking through Qantas Contact Centres in Australia or New Zealand the fee may be paid with cash. This non-refundable fee applies only when making the initial booking. See the terms and conditions for details.

This is further shown the Fee Schedule in the QFF T&Cs, dated 20th November 2013.

Not sure if these are recent additions, as the CSR suggested - can't find a cached copy to view the previous versions.

Sorry I can't post URLs to those pages as I just signed up, however they're at /fflyer/dyn/program/usingPoints/qantas-any-seat and /fflyer/dyn/program/terms#jump24 respectively.

Will see what AstroDamo is able to find out if he remembers after his nightshift :p

edit: typos.

Depends if the ASA is available online or not. If not available online, no fee.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

The terms and conditions seem quite clear on this - any award (classic or any seat or partner etc etc) booking will incur a fee when made with the assistance of a consultant.

What the system allows, and common practice, may be different however. Will be interesting to hear what AstroDamo finds out.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Unless the policy has changed, Red Roo has stated that there should be no fee in booking X/Z/U/P class Any Seat awards over the telephone as they are not availiable online. Qantas' call centre has been consistently inconsistent in dealing with this, however.

I share your frustrations with the ongoing inconsistent phone service, and agree that sufficient time has passed since the change in procedure for such bookings was introduced.

I can personally assure you that the direction to waive the booking fee most definitely appears on the internal guidelines. In fact, there's a separate cluecard linked to the main reference page dedicated to the booking of Any Seat Awards at Classic Awards rates, and it offers a step by step example of the necessary system entries required to waive the Award Assistance Fee.

It's fully understood what it means to our frequent and and most savvy customers that these bookings are no longer available online. Therefore we're keen to ensure the new booking process is as seamless as possible, and will continue our commitment to improving the service delivery of our frontline teams.

Once again, your patience is sincerely appreciated. As Steph suggested over lunch at Rockpool earlier this month, our priority is to ensure these bookings remain available to you into the future, even if not online. So please feel free to forward me any specific examples of where you've been incorrectly charged a booking fee, or a consultant/supervisor is unable to assist you (availability aside).

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just remember, ROQ 7740 is your friend.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

From what we have seen here, that is quite ... unlikely to happen.

Keep us updated, please

Yep it didn't happen. It was booked as classic award. The consultant even checked wit the supervisor.

Anyways the request to release an award seat came through and for that I am thankful to QF.:)

It's 1280 miles direct, therefore Zone 3, so 36,000 points in each direction.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Hi Guys

Not sure if this is the right place to post this.

I wanted to share with you my success today with booking 2x JASA BNE to DXB. It's all thanks to your helpful comments over the last few months that I was able to do this.

With some trepidation I first made sure that the flights I wanted were available as a Classic Award, then rang Qantas hoping to get someone with the knowledge of how to do this. Of course I didn't, but thought to plough on regardless, I could always end the call and try again.

Well, Lewis was so very helpful. I asked him to talk to his supervisor, then mentioned the RoQ 7744. He left me on hold for about 5 mins and came back full with the knowledge of what I wanted. " Now I understand, you want to earn points and SCs with this flight". Perfect, we were on the same page. I explained I wanted to use 96,000 points x 2, the Classic award rate plus a co payment. He also was very helpful in finding out the cancellation/change details. All took 20 mins.

I used 96,000 points x2 and co payment $968 ( Classic was $670 ). Within a few minutes I had an email with confirmation and a couple of hours later the points have been deducted from my account with the magic words Any Seat Award. I am very happy! thanks again to all those who have posted about this.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I wish I could share the same success story...

I've just been off the phone for an hour (with two agents, both consulting supervisors, the first call dropped - my phone ran out of battery) trying to book SYD-NRT return in Z Prem econ. I originally tried SYD-CTS multicity (QF->Jetstar Japan) but I figure it's too complicated (the first agent couldn't do it) so I simplify it into SYD-NRT return on the second call.

The second agent although more helpful couldn't do it either (even after I mentioned RoQ 7740), but since she couldn't find why, she helpfully hold the classic seats and sent some request internally giving me a booking reference (showing on the website with return premium economy Z class, so the seat was definitely available), so that someone who knows better will call me back in 48 hours or at least it can be ticketed as a classic if it couldn't be done as a MASA...

We'll see how it goes...

(in the old days, this would've taken few minutes of my time, a few clicks, without all the hassle. and now, we're wasting everyone's time :-|)

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Exactly, GalaxyNexus . You could not have summed it up any better.

Well, while that might seem to be the case it could be that there are good reasons for them doing it this way. Having the option online might have caused more work for QANTAS staff with customer errors or changes. Also might be a way for QANTAS to work out how popular these deals are and if they can ween us off them and then remove them without much public outcry.

It could also be that they have a really poor IT team at present.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just had the fun merry-go-round with the NZ call centre.

Booked BNE-SYD-HBA return same day in U for the double status credits in January.
Spoke with a lovely lady who apparently doesn't exist according to the next operator, who knew exactly what I wanted and spoke through the why and congratulated me on becoming Gold with this flight who books 18/1 down and 18/7 back. I believe an Innocent keying stroke. There was no verbal confirmation of the dates, just the flight numbers. I see the error when the itinerary comes through.

Rang back and spoke to M. She did not understand the why I was doing this and various other things that dont need to be said, but if Red Roo listened to the call then so be it.
Apparently a MCT of 40 mins and a turn around time for the plane of 40 mins is not allowable to be booked full stop. Explain its bookable online as a redemption or revenue fare, I assume its not amendable for phone operators (another IT quirk).
After 20 mins is up I come off hold and she has been authorised apparently my ticket has been re validated and I am good to go.

I am still waiting for an amended itinerary to come through, though MMB shows the correct flights, but expect grief even though I have this debit line on my statement.
