In the order of what I will fly
Qantas<Jetstar<Virgin Blue<Flapping my Arms<Tiger
I would modify this slightly and put
Qantas<Virgin Blue<Jetstar<Flapping my Arms<Driving<Walking<Crawling<Tiger as my order of priorities.

I have flown JQ on 5 legs and had no issues other than one slightly grumpy checkin chick :!:
MEL-CHC
CHC-MEL
MEL-DRW
DRW-MEL
CNS-MEL

SYD-HNL-SYD in *Class - 4 times with another 2 trips booked :p - For the price paid, which is around $1400 return for most trips, you can't go wrong.

MEL-HTI-MEL - Only because DJ doesn't fly non-stop on this route.

I have no real problem with Jetstar based on those 10 flights with them. One of the SYD-HNL flights was delayed but that can happen to any airline.

I don't expect much in terms of service from the kids working in the cabin, but they manage to deliver the food and drinks the same as any other cabin crew. More often than not they are very friendly and I have had 2 outstanding staff!

As I said another 2 SYD-HNL-SYD flights booked in *Class for this year when the flights were on sale.

Would I pay $10k for QF in J ? NO

Jetstar serves my limited demands on them fine and I have no reason to change!

I've used Jetstar domestically quite a lot for the MEL-PER run which I do to visit family regularly - I look on it as a glorified bus/train and have rarely had a problem because I'm not expecting too much! At 3 - 4 hr trip as long as the seat is reasonably comfortable I'm ok. Being a rural resident I'm used to travelling these times to get to the city anyway. My last trip over in December 2009 was in a family group and the tix were $94 each - cant complain at that price!

Internationally, hubby and I did the MEL-HNL when it was running in 2007 - had exit row seats and because of half filled plane ended up with a full row of four for sleeping each way as well! Staff where friendly and drink requests were met. No probs. B/fast food was very average but I can live with that.

Did Japan late in 2009 - MEL-NAR on the way over and KANSAI-MEL on the way back. Check in chick at MEL very grumpy at 5am but that was our only bad experience on this trip. We got our exit row seats as booked both ways (on the left or right - dont go for the middle!). In fact when we were on the home leg the Cust Serv officer at the Info desk at the Gold Coast asked our group if we would like to move to an earlier MEL flight to save us some time - thanks very much we said. So he moved 17 of us which got us back to MEL 2 hrs ahead of our original plan which was fantastic. Much appreciated by four tired adults and 13 very tired teenagers.

So overall my thoughts about Jetstar are that you get what you pay for most of the time. Of course any airline can have problems and I agree with previous posters who say that its only when things go wrong that you might be a bit exposed - just like many things in life eg insurance! If you are going to a friend's wedding or other important event and leave the travel to the day of the event then I think you are asking for trouble on any airline - the gods of travel are just waiting to trip you up!

Flown JQi, in Starclass, and flown domestically. They are fine for what they are.

I wish they would bring back SYD-OOL on QF..

Normally I fly QF to Brisbane then make my way down to OOL jst to avoid having to fly DJ/JQ and so I get points status/credits.

Join Velocity and fly DJ, they aren't that bad (IMO) If QF don't want to fly to OOL, fine with me, I will fly someone else.

I have been with Velocity since the start, but due to various stuff-ups on different things.etc. over the years stopped flying with them. Also I always feel ripped off paying almost same price as QF on DJ only not to receive food/drink or IFE.

I've flown them to Bali a few times, as well as Singapore, and intra asia on a few flights too.

You get what you pay for. The sale fares are good value, the seats are reasonably comfortable (are you listening Air Asia X!!!!!), never had a delay for the flight.

I take some sandwiches on the plane with me, empty bottle that gets filled up at the drinking fountain.

They serve a niche fairly well. Just wish they would expand the network a bit. Direct flights SYD BKK or via DRW rather than MEL would be nice.

The choices in the poll don't quite represent my position accurately.

JQ is not my first choice. The only time I've flown them (before I came to know AFF) are:
  • Star Class runs on Australian domestic (now uneconomical)
  • JQi runs for F Lounge on domestic (see above, substitute Star Class for Economy)
  • JQ Star Class on the first Star Class sale; route was SYD-KIX via OOL

The main thing that gets on my nerve about JQ is in Economy you get no rewards at all besides a seat (and lounge if you have the status) - no meals, no drinks, no points, no status credits, no recognition - nothing! So I only fly JQ Economy for F Lounge runs; I've never flown JetFlex and it doesn't look likely that's going to happen.

I don't mind JQ Star Class; now that prices have dropped (when I flew JQ *C we still had fuel fines), I believe it's good value for money. No matter what JQ say, Star Class is not the standard of Business Class that can be expected of other carriers (with a few exceptions), but for the price you pay (during sales), it's a bargain.

If I had to fly Economy on JQi, there would need to be a very good reason as to why. Once again, all I get is a seat on a plane and absolutely nothing more. Prices would need to be rock bottom or I'd have to be desperate to have to go that far.

I'm also weary of the latest reports of multiple JQ cancellations, irrops etc.. Getting delayed even on the MEL-SYD or SYD-MEL legs of a JQi flight seems to be the norm now; rather depressing (for a F Lounge run I don't mind...)

So overall, JQ is not on my "no-fly" list, but it certainly doesn't rank awfully high on my choice of carriers.

I feel there was probably already too many choices anyway.

Very surprised at the number of people responding to the poll who have never flown JQ for one reason or another. I thought there would not be that many but it is close to 1 in 5 if you also count the ones who have vowed never to fly JQ again.

Can live without all of that on the sale fares. Happy with no drinks or meal, especially if its a 1 hr flight. (you know it's no big deal missing out on a byron bay cookie or an apple like on many QF flights ...).

However, many JQ non-sale fares aren't that cheap once the plane starts filling up. If you're paying $350 for return flight MEL-OOL, then some recognition of loyalty would be good. Certainly on QF (if they flew it) you'd get at least 1650 QFF pts/30 SC's and on DJ at least 1750 velocity pts.

Exactly my way of thinking. If it's cheap, then it fits my idea of a LCC, if it's not cheap then I'll be looking for a full service carrier (and everything that goes with it - points/SC, food, drink.....)

The 8 sectors I have booked on JQ have cost me a grand total, though one sale or another, of $288.40 for 4 people (so 32 sectors, altogether)

It would be interesting to see responses and whether any future decision making is affected by the recent bad publicity.

I have never flown Jetstar and will never flly them unless my life depends on it and there is no alternative.

Flown on JQi and JQd. Found in flight product and service fine, JQi was really quite good (HNLSYD).

My beef with JQ is there service levels on the ground in res/sales. It's really disgusting. Yes it's a LCC, but this really shows when dealing with the res team trying to solve issues.

Have used jq conditionally now since qf stopped flying to bali approximately 4 times per year always on the look out for specials * class only 4 times but really when supper cheap have just booked with aa for half the price I would normally pay
But then again I will look at mh for june because they can be cheaper than * class sometimes
Have flown with dj and have found then to be youthful? Especially the in flight aerobics

I have flown JQ at the last minute SYD-OOL on a Friday night.... as well as SYD-LST, SYD-HNL, SYD-HKT. The SYD-OOL leg was a nightmare, it reminded me of my student days flying ryanair in europe. Being a Friday night it was full of people having bucks parties, walking up and down the aisle in lace and bras. The crew were great though. I flew DJ back which was by far more civilised.... Will not do JQ to OOL again (nor go to the gold coast either for that matter). JQ starclass when on sale is just too good to pass up for the SCs however.

QF then DJ then Rex (I am a country boy) then JQ for me.

JQ non-sale fares just arent worth it on a route where a domestic red e-deal with qantas could land me a free glass of wine, a dry biscuit meal variant and some free luggage for nearly the same price. I do use them though on those routes where QF doesnt operate, but now that VAustralia have moved into some of their markets (eg HKT) I would use them instead :-|

I have flown Jetstar twice and had absolutely no problem.
Plane on time, no time changes. It all went very smoothly.
The first time was with check in luggage and the second time 'carry on'.
The only issue was the leg room. I am sure that it is smaller than any other airline I have flown with.

When I was a poor student I did many a cheap flight on JQ.. got what I paid for... Service in the air was ok but many a delay due to equipment issues... one overnight delay when QF/DJ flights were getting out (after TS) but our bird sat on the ground (cant recall the issue... )

That said I never paid much!

Now I have OW emerald status I have quite an incentive to fly QF... I did not vote never again as, if JQ is the only option, I would use it (or a cheap StarClass fare)

Time to update your profile. I didn't think QP PS or AAdvantage Platinum were the equivalent to Oneworld Emerald status. ;)

JQ could never be the only option! Depending on where you want to go there are always other options like ships, trains, buses, horses, walking, swimming, crawling....

PER-ADL
ADL-MEL
MEL-PER x2
OOL-SYD

done on JQ, i would fly them again if they were on sale and significantly cheaper than QF.
