Heads up about program changes

I think the fact that they haven't managed to "regionalise" the partner earning tables yet shows how complex the simpler system is. What I find almost funny though is the fact that the upgrade award table is still based on distance not regions. What a mess...

When the Simpler and Fairer[SUP]TM[/SUP] was announced, the tables showed DFW as west coast USA. The were only two US zones: E & W coasts; nothing was described as 'central USA'.

But, upgrades to DFW attract a higher premium than LAX. Logic is a funny thing hey!

Great work QF! Pax should be rewarded for saving you AA fees on the LAX-DFW codeshare leg!

Another example of where the award table needs to decrease to be simpler and fairer.

Of course, because that is automatically simpler and fairer because it costs you, the pax, more in points .

This aint about fairness. I buy a first class ticket from LAX to JFK - I earn 120 SCs - Zone 4. I want to redeem for that route - it is Zone 5. In the "fairness" thing they split the earn from redeem. Reduced earn but did not reduce redeem in a corresponding way.

They did promise at the lunch that they were working to revise the redemption requirements. The delay was attributed to qantas wanting to make sure the cost didn't go up on some routes. They didn't seem to acknowledge that some routes need to decrease. Having said all that it is taking a long time for the new redemptions requirements to be released.

This aint about fairness.

It never was. "Simpler & Fairer" was just marketing spin to paper over program changes designed to benefit QF's bottom line while keeping the majority of members thinking that "rewards" like they used to exist are still to be had.

QFF is basically a working capital funding facility and profit centre, driven by the illusion - reinforced constantly in advertising and even in the CEO's results announcement today - that it's about "rewards".

Seems my adjustments to old earning have stopped. This was the last one:

[TD="bgcolor: #FFFFFF, align: left"]ADJUSTED EARN-BOOKING MADE BEFORE 29MAR14[/TD]

I've had 2 flights since that that I'm sure were booked on 27 March (according to my spreadsheet), a day or two before the cut off.

Is it just me? Are others still getting the adjustments?

If it is a general cut off, I'm not sure about calling as my remaining eligible flights, that would miss out, only amount to 30 status credits and 2700 points.

There had better not be a general cut-off. My last flights are worth 80SCs and are at the end of Jan '15.

Have you tried calling them and asking them to adjust it manually? This was the only way to have it adjusted at the start, and before they write a script that runs a few times a day. Maybe the script is somehow failing and they're waiting for your call? ;-)

Not yet. I usually give them some time to do things automatically. I'm sure they're hoping I don't call. ;)

I've just remembered that I had notifications from MyFlights about changes to all of my Qantas bookings on 2 and 3 december. Some weird changes as well, like removing/changing the ticket number/fare basis and then changing things back.

Just to follow up. The expected adjustments have arrived automatically. Just a bit slow. Normal programming has resumed.

Just used Milage Monkey to determine SC's for my next RTW DONE4
16 segments and 1300 SC

Manually calc using fairer and simpler tables 1030 SC that is a big difference!!

160 reduction from using CX and BA to go via HKG with the latter coming from 2/3 reduction on AA F flights

Looks like a bit more flying to retain WP

Is that pleasure or business travel (ie. are you locked to that itinerary because of business needs?).

As a leisure SFSC, I never fly LHR to E coast US (or vice-versa). Besides being in that 7-9 hour zone of what I call 'nuisance flights' (not enough time to take full advantage of the service and get enough sleep), it constrains earn.

I always go right over to LAX, SFO or SEA, then work my way east, making sure I get the one allowed transcon in F on AA.

I have a DONE5 planned for later this year: [PER-SYD]*SYD-DFW-MSP-DFW-PHX-DFW-SFO-MIA-BOG-[BOG-MDE][CTG-BOG]**-SCL-MAD-HEL-[HEL-RIX-HEL]**-LHR-JNB-WDH-JNB-SYD[SYD-PER]*

*using Amex Ultimate card 'free' whY- flights (upgraded) to position to/from SYD (and add squiggles).
**some whY- fares on LA & AY for short single-class sectors.

According to the Simpler & Fairer[SUP]TM[/SUP] calculator at QF, this should yield 1705 SCs (1640 from the DONE5). Didn't bother to calculate it under the old rules.

Yes it is work, so cities pretty much locked in for meetings

Have not looked at DONE5, what is the cost versus a DONE4?
