Heads up about program changes

I think you're missing the point (pun intended, tongue in cheek) !

QF wants you to spend some MORE to travel in PE in that case, or even J.

The bean counters apparently thought by downgrading the benefits of discount Y, people would be 'herded' into more-profitable premium cabins.

Now, would you consider that ?

Or just content with CC earn, as yet unchanged ?

NEXT STEP....................Make Business Class seats smaller, make more of them so more people can travel in "comfort" paying more to get a itsy witsy bit less than the smucks up back who pay the bulk of the overall cost of the aircraft being in the air.
fairer of course as there will be a reduction in cabin staff as well to fit down the narrower corridors.

Might even create a lower class of travel too.......container... a box in the back with some pillows, a blanket and an oxygen bottle for the less affluent members of society to make travel truely available to the unwashed masses

The new QFF has indeed brought about huge changes - they seemed to have removed not only earn rates but our senses of humour as well!

This suggestion will upset quite a few WPs but if QF wants to save some more money, get rid of the unpublished WP benefit of being able to request a revenue seat be released as an award seat / or maybe keep this benefit but make it more restrictive like you can't request the seat until less than 14 days from departure.

I have used this benefit in the past requesting a SYD-SCL J award be opened up which was great but I can imagine the loss revenue potential for that seat when I have asked for that seat many months prior to travel. If every long haul flight had 1 or 2 J/F seat removed from a revenue bucket and given as an award (probably under WP duress as well), then they could be making not as much if given the opportunity to sell that seat for cash.

Why doesn't QF just call a spade a spade and allocate 0.01 SCs per dollar spent on fares? Could anything be simpler? Or am I missing something?

LOL You do realise that this is exactly what QF started to do to Business Class on domestic A330s?

Qantas squashed in an extra seat at every row, and went from 2x2x2 to 2x3x2! Then they got caught with their pants down, when Virgin introduced domestic A330s with a 60" pitch... but QF are still flying around with a 37" pitch & a fake table covering the middle seat on some A330 J cabins, and most likely will for quite some time!!

Don't worry this used to happen.
Back in the 70s we flew CX SIN-KUL-HKG.We were in the last row of Y.There was a curtain behind us which was secured in SIN.But in KUL a lot of Chinese got on all carrying a brown paper bag. They all went behind the curtain.Being in the aisle seat I had a good look behind the curtain. They were all sitting on benches and the brown paper bags were BYO meals.
I await the next enhancement.

You are missing afactor of 5 perhaps? A $4k fare netting 40 status credits. I think not.

Corporate fare are often heavily discounted. So this would reduce SC earn for a lot of high value pax. Where I work the top management pay half price for their J and F tickets.

So spend $140000 to make platinum and $120000 to retain. $370000 for platinum one. It might happen one day. But for now do you think that might be a significant devaluation? Are the benefits of platinum worth that level of spend? In your opinion.

I think there has to be some complications/loopholes that suck us game-players in.
Imagine if the program was straightforward and everyone could understand and use it?
What fun would it then be for us "smarties"?

But still it is the suckers flying 100+ discount Y fares a year that are killing qantas.

I am sure it has been mentioned somewhere in this thread but one change disturbs me in more ways than one.

JQ flights with starter plus earn Economy SCs and points and a starter max earns Flexible Economy Scs and points? What the....?

I do not really follow JQ airfares that much but from memory it does not cost very much to add Starter plus packages to already cheap flights.

Don't worry about the word economy. Domestically they earn the same as discount economy according to the published table. (But not according to the online calculator)

This has prompted me to check ADL-SYD JQ fares. During the current sale period QF is $125, JQ is $108 with plus pack ($19).

JQ have also added a flight that suits my schedule. The timing is actually better than QF or VA. Currently trying to find the Cost per ASK for JQ to determine if they'll make more money from me switching to JQ.

The cost of these bundles went up last year. Plus some flyers may choose the voucher rather than the SC/points.

Missing something .....OK the proprietor/s of this site for one would be royally p#ssed as making life in the SC or points race that simple would probably eliminate a very large percentage of the content and comment on the this site. With a drop in numbers and /or activity as a result I think that would have a significant impact on the their advertising revenue stream. Keep going down that path and you may well be up for some serious penance for even thinking such sinful thoughts.

Its for the same reason I guess that we have piles of taxation law instead of a simple system ...... there is after all always another angle in the mix.

Having said that, even if a 'flat line rate SC / Points rate earn' system was installed ...... sooner that later someone here would work out away to play the system, God love them.

Sorry - must have been using a QF calculator. I meant to suggest 0.1 SC per dollar spent. So $7000 discount J fare to Europe earns 700 SC, $150 domestic Y earns 15. The message from QF seems clear enough to me - they intend to reward you in proportion to your value to them - which doesn't necessarily equal how frequently you fly. I'd just prefer that this be transparent.

For extra $19 (on short flights) you get 1,000 QFF points, 10 SC, $5 f&b voucher and standard seat selection. It's not bad.
