I am the retired RCMP Forensic Crime Scene member who worked the Swissair 111 air crash off Nova Scotia, Canada in 1998. In 2011, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp focused their The Fifth Estate program about me and an alternate cause for the crash. I have now written a book on the investigation from the inside, and have created a website at [redacted link]. There was an abundance of controversy about the program, simply because they did not have the time to cover all the details. Those facts are now released and open for public display. I am sure the readers of this site will be interested in those facts that are available through my site. Thank you for your interest.

Welcome aboard Tom Juby, are you planning on sticking around?

Have no need to read the book, seen Air Crash Investigation on this crash several times. Now if you were Richard de Crespigny (PIC on QF32) or John Bartels (PIC on QF30), then I'd be buying a book (as I already have RdeC's book on QF32). Agree with Aussie_flyer. Call me a cynic, I look to be proven wrong....

More information about Tom Juby here (and the premise of the book no doubt): Swissair crash may not have been an accident: ex-RCMP - Canada - CBC News

Thanks, everyone. I see my link has been removed, so if you google Tom Juby twice as far you will come onto my website. I have photos of the recovery site, morgue, recovery process, and reconstruction. But what is most important is that the testing of the physical evidence indicated the presence of an incendiary device or fire bomb. While no bomb went off, extensive testing of all the materials in the fire zone failed to locate the elements that were found. We had very high indications of magnesium, aluminum, and iron, all ingredients of an incendiary device. The book and the pages explain the process. It goes on to explain how the RCMP and the TSB worked to keep that evidence under wraps, and no mention was ever made in any of the TSB reports. Once finished the actual investigation, the book shows how the RCMP continued to keep the matter quiet, even lying to the media and public about the matter once the CBC's program aired. Serious laws were broken by members of the TSB and senior memebers of the RCMP, and this book reveals the extent of those misdeeds and how they accomplished it. This is not intended as a feel good, great job type of book. It tells you what the testing was, how it went, and the website provides the scientific readouts and the actual videos of some of the tests. You can then decide for yourself. Let me know what you think of it, please. Tom Juby Twice As Far.

Sorry I am doubter, he will be here long term... All I see is a forum spammer selling his book

Doubt all you want. The website is free. Have a look. Look at the page on the FAA burn tests and view the videos. The only one that burnt the mylar hot enough to melt aluminum had eight times the correct amount of material.
Have a look at the AES tables that show the high magnesium with no aluminum, or high aluminum with no magnesium. Add in the iron, and you have an incendiary device.
All the best Tom

Doubt all you want.

No one is doubting your work, AFAIK.

What is being discussed is whether or not you will become a long term contributor to this website or if you just want to sell some copies of your book and then move on?

The Terms of Service clearly outline that commercial posts are not allowed.

The responses to this thread are another good example of where this forum is going wrong.

I wish you the best of luck, Tom. You may have to look elsewhere for a greater concentration of people who are really interested in what you have to talk about.

I think most here are very interested in what Tom Juby could share, however a first post that plugs a book they're selling and subsequent posts that don't really answer the question of whether they plan to contribute beyond this thread do make you wonder.

I'd be happy to hear they plan to contribute to other threads, sharing life stories, revealing what it's like to investigate in one of these cases. But if the answer to those questions are "buy the book" then their reason for posting is less about the community and more about themselves.

I have had a look at the website and it contained a trove of information. I then checked Wikipedia. Perhaps someday I'll watch the show. I'm not sure I'll buy the book.

The clues aren't even hidden on this one Tom... they're right there in the Terms of Service.

A good forensic crime scene member should have spotted them.

I might be looking at the wrong terms but, if the gentleman was only linking to his website rather than, say the Amazon store with his book, then I don't see the issue. How is this different to, for example, linking to FlyerTalk or a Fairfax news site, which also sell things?

So, welcome Tom Juby. Please stick around.

A moderator may choose to respond, but as you've quoted me Danger, I'll elaborate. But I'll do so carefully as discussion about moderator actions is also against ToS.

Firstly, I agree it's a fine line and I respect your view.

Second, it is my view the tone of the OP was promotional in nature. While it may not have been a direct sales pitch, I think most people would have read between the lines. I use the word "promotional", because "promotional messages" is the phrase that's in the TOS:

"Please do not attempt to sell or trade any products or services. Posts containing promotional messages for commercial products or services are not permitted."

The difference between your example of linking to either FT or a news website and the actions of the OP is context.

If an AFF member reads an interesting article about planes and posts "...here's an interesting story about planes <link>". The member is sharing content.

If they write "I wrote a book about planes and here's my website about planes <link>." They're sharing promotional messages about where to buy the book.

I reckon Tom could contribute a lot to the forum and I really hope he does.

But in three posts so far we've had a sales pitch and two replies that failed to answer members' direct questions.

For now I remain a cynic, ever hopeful of being proven wrong.

Well guys, I guess I do have a lot to contribute. But that depends on what you want to hear. If it's about actually flying and things in the air, I listen to those who know something about it. I have sat many hours in the right seat of a twin otter because there was only the pilot and me for ten hours. But he did the flying to some remote village in the Arctic, and I did the work once we landed. He was the expert, and I certainly didn't tell him anything about flying.
But if you want to talk about air crash investigations, then I spent four years on Swissair 111, and did many before that. What I have to contribute deals with that, and how the Transportation Safety Board of Canada conducted another faulty investigation. Now before I can discuss anything about that, someone on the other end needs to know something about it, or ask questions that will be meaningful. If you want to see how a Government Agency can manipulate and control an investigation, even when many of the investigators themselves are honest and aboveboard, then I suggest you can start with my story. The CBC only got part of it, and then the RCMP and TSB lied to cover the details, and I have the documents on the website to prove it. The TV crash programs have been fed the line by the TSB because that is what they wanted to disclose to the public. If you believe all that is fed to you by government agencies, then I should be selling swamp land in Florida. Easy enough to check the website, check the videos, and what they didn't disclose to the public. It has happened here in Canada on at least two major crashes. It can happen elsewhere. Thanks for your time. Tom

What air crash investigations did you do before Swissair 111? Any major ones that we may know about?

The conspiracy theory with the MI6 agent looks interesting. If I was going to believe the downing of the plane was due to foul play that seems the most likely sort, as crazy as it seems.
