Re: The totally off-topic thread

It almost does actually seem legit. Does anyone have a photo of <redacted>?

Also just to note... I've not received the msg in the initial round ; all those that did appear to be people who would in fact have met him in BNE some time I'd say. My inclusion now is due to the fact I'm in LON and may be able to assist. Racking my brains though.. I don't recall ever meeting!

Re: The totally off-topic thread

I am reasonably convinced it's not real now as I've now received a message, on FT though rather than AFF! I don't remember him ever having gone to OzFest in ADL.
<redacted> ...
The member was indeed in Adelaide and hosted, as always, drinks in his room.

Flashware, I have PMd a photo link.

Flashware, I have emailed you a photo.

I have sent an email asking him to answer a couple of questions that only he knows.

Let's see what happens

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Thanks all. In that case I'm sure I did meet him in that case ; the face is vaguely familiar... (for reasons undisclosed )

Re: The totally off-topic thread

The other thing is that serfty didn't mention OzFest to him, when he gave my details. Although a bit of searching on FT would have seen my thread involvement, so that's not a 100% win there but goes a long way. Let's see how it pans out....

I received an FT PM earlier today. I followed up with both email and a PM - the email has been replied to in a manner and with content I feel is legit.

Yes, the person definitely was in Adelaide.

That's certainly my thoughts.

This is a real worry then. What can we do to assist?

Re: The totally off-topic thread

I have just spoken to [him]

I am more than comfortable that it was indeed [that person] that I spoke to and that he really has been robbed.

The only one who can really do any more is flashware and I have given him the details of where and when they can meet up.

[he] appreciates what ever people can do to help and understands the scepticism that people may have to what has happened.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

... and if you don't hear from me after tomorrow morning, assume I've not made it out alive!

Actually I did note that you were there, but he removed that part amongst other bits from the quote of mine he included when contacting you.

Ah! OK. In any case I've made contact and hopefully we can get this sorted out in the next day or so.

He answered my questions but got one of them wrong (perhaps he mis-read it) but I also signed off QF SG. He didn't comment on that - and everyone who knows me, knows what I expected to have as a comment.

I have more confidence but still not 100%.

Some more info coming your way Flashware.

I feel bad....it does now sound like the genuine request was from <that person> who I would consider a friend....I wish I was not so flippant with my comment above. Flashware, I hope you can help him. I have his personal no. In Sydney which I can PM you if you need any final confirmation that it indeed is him

Re: The totally off-topic thread

It now appears that this is indeed a genuine case where an AFF member needs some assistance, therefore I retract my comment about it being a scam
and I hope that the member is able to get the help they need a.s.a.p.
I wish him all the best.
Cheers

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Same here.Problem was it was worded very similiarly to previous scams.
mental note to self-stop jumping to conclusions until you have all the evidence.

I am another person who didn't believe the original email, I am glad that straitman was able to make contact, and thanks to straitman for the follow up PM. I hope things can be worked out, and glad we have a contact in the UK in Flashware to help out.

I am rather annoyed with myself as I got it wrong.
