Hi Folks,

Been lurking around here for a bit and finally decided to sign up to AFF! I have found this place a wealth of knowledge!

So, i have to travel to Frankfurt mid July for my brothers wedding! Pretty excited as he is the first brother or relative of mine in my generation that is getting married! His wedding is on the 14th of July (in Mannheim) so i will have to factor in arrival a few days before this.

I will be hitting QF SG for this first time by the end of the month so my preference would be for OW for lounge access. I have traveled internationally in Y a few times before and have to say i dont particularly agree with it, so class preference would be for Y+. I wouldnt mind having to traveling in Y for aportion of my journey if it dropped costs by a couple of hundred.

Departure would be out of BNE but SYD is also an option if the price is right. I have looked at QF that goes BNE-SIN-FRA and the same return in Y+ and it was about $5500 which i find too expensive for my budget.

So i thought i would ask any of you folks if you had any potentially better deals that you could find. Your help would be much appreciated!!!

Welcome to AFF!

Others are better than me at this, but you could consider flying Y BNE-SIN-BNE (about 8 hours, ~AUD1100), and buying a separate Y+ ticket from SIN-FRA-SIN where they sell somewhat cheaper (about 13 hours, ~AUD2540) so a total cost of around AUD3640). Gives you Y+ for around 60% of the journey. Connection times (it is about 4 hrs on the way over, a bit more on the way back) seem low risk, but if you were concerned then you could perhaps stop over in SIN for a day.

PS. Finnair used to have good mixed class airfare deals (Y Oz to Asia, J Asia to Europe) which may appeal. Not sure if they still exist but a bit of hunting may find them.

Personally, I'd pay for Y and pay for exit row seats. Or 71D, 80A/K on 388 planes. There's no way I'd pay over $5K to fly premium economy, ever.

Have a look into buying two one way tickets. One off the Aus QANTAS site for trip over and one off one of the German QANTAS site for trip back. I haven't checked recently but it may save you a few $ or a lot more if there are some sale fares going on?

1700EUR for the return flight in Y+ Ex Frankfurt to SYD 18 July
832EUR for the return flight in Y Ex Frankfurt to SYD 18 July

Of course you will need to account for X rate fees on your CC. But your best option in my mid would be exit row seat or 71D/80K etc as mentioned above and keep the money you save for a business fare next year or spending money while your over there!

Hope that helps!?

One way flights will be More expensive than half of a return flight. So that is not really an option.

I took this option last year from PER. Used an ASA PER-SIN-PER and purchased the SIN-FRA-SIN legs in Y+ from the QF SIN site. Worked really well...

If you book with S7 you can fly SYD-FRA-MOW rtn for a little over $1,000 in Y (RUB 36k).

A quick and dirty booking of dates of 11/7/12 to 11/8/12 shows that there are flights available at this price. If you wanted to come back earlier then the price would go up to $1,800 for Y (approx RUB 56k).

Where it gets really interesting is in J, departing on the 11th and coming back on the 25th of July reveals a price of RUB 142k or a little over $4,500 each way.

there are a few threads on this particular fare so look around.

All fares are able to have a stopover in Frankfurt so you could do SYD-FRA(stop)-MOS(destination or straight turnaround)-FRA-SYD.

Flights are QF to FRA and S7 (Siberian, so part of OneWorld) between FRA and MOS.

There is also the option of the USAirways/BMI points but I dont think that there are any promos at the moment. Award availabilty might be tight for July as well.
