Hi there
First time poster - long time lurker - thanks for all valuable advice so far!

I am based in NYC and am a QFF + QC member at Silver. Need 70 SC to reach Gold by July 31. Any suggestions for quick mileage runs on AA from NYC within USA (other option is can go to Europe but seems exey this time of year) - been looking at YUP fares and not having a lot of luck finding ones from NYC to make it worth it. Any suggestions.

thanks in advance

Depends on how much money you want to spend.

Have you looked at any flights from EWR to Florida; I was able to pick up EWR-ORD-TPA for $634.00 AUD, maybe not as cheap as you want but not too bad for the 150-180 Status you can get for each way.

Thanks! good suggestion - not too bad - best that I have seen - flights are at $532USD. I think doable. Gold does make a diff with QF esp when JFK-Syd involved.

Farecompare has a site that can assist.

Discounted First Class and Flyer Talk Fares

After the search completes, click "Carrier Filters", then select "[]American (AA) (only)".

Also see this thread:
Look here for a possible 10% discount off the fare:
Also, have a look here.

www.centuryinthemaking.com

You can register, pick 5 games and get a 10% fare discount code - note that to use it you cannot hold a booking.

Thanks to you both for the advice - particularly for the thread link Serfty - great info there that answers a lot of my questions (I have been searching the site but strangely that link did not come up)

I notice that the fare you suggested Bundy Bear, from EWR-ORD-TPA on the AA site is cheaper by about $250 than on FareCompare.

My status credits are up on 31 July - so if I was to go on 30 July and come back 1August - I could get the 70 credits I need to make Gold, then the other credits would go to the next year - or is that cutting it a bit fine for QF?

No that is how they work it. They actually spent some time making sure that SCs post in the year that you earn them.

Depends how many points you want and how much time you have

Just booked den-dfw-ord-lex-ord-dfw-den for less than $400 and that's 400 sc with the den-dfw and dfw-ord legs in first with instant upgrade and Y for the American eagle flights to and from LEX.

Also used this code AmericanAirlines® penalty challenge

Register play the game and you'll be sent a 10% discount code, I have registered with multiple email addresses and have used this on all my flights in the states in September - nothing like getting a kupp fare that's ridiculously cheap and getting a further 10% off

Wow, that's an awesome earning rate. Not wanting to second guess or doubt you but are sure that's the cost and SC earning?

Yep booked it yesterday on aa.com for September

Actual flight cost is $191 each way instant upgrade, so with taxes etc a little over but then if you use the 10% off....

There were similar earn rate flights earlier in the week bna - dfw-ege return and
Ege-dfw-day return both 360 sc's but went to book yesterday and they had doubled in price - looking forward to my 2 yrs WP for $1400...boom!

Enjoy!

Some great links and info people. Now to find the time to park myself in the states for a week or two.....

Didn't believe it untill I saw it - Instant Upgrade $191.

It is cheaper than Y by a good $200. This is a steal and a great SC run.

Everything into LEX is on Eagle but the DEN-DFW-ORD leg is in 'P'.

Great find. Now just need a reason for a US trip........

Out 25 Sept. Back 26 Sept.

Seems like most of Sept had the $191 fare available.

Anyone up for a quick run to DEN? With a few the 10% discounts you could get WP for AUD1600-ish.

Just a shame these aren't available in NOV (although the positioning to DEN I wasn't so keen on).

Looks like the SFO-SEA runs are still there, and do-able in a day return if you do it originating at SEA. Also found a reasonable one, slightly more expensive but still not bad. 420 SC's for around $810 USD (with the 10% discount). Coupling these two together at this stage for my re-qual (also managed to get an ASA for an effective price of 83000 points with +++'s of only $150, so there's another 110 SC's towards the cause).

Unless I can find something super-value like your run:) It'll end up costing me around $2k for re-qual, and burning 83000 points as well (and I get to see some friends i've not seen in a long time in the process!).

There fares show up in sabre, any of you considered using an agent? You may find that you can get more SC's than the AA web site.

I priced out HNL-SFO-LAX-LAS-DFW-ORD-JFK-MIA-BGI all in A class except the last in I class, for about AUD1000. (680 SC's). same available return. I havent tried to ticket it yet but the fare rules seem to indicate unlimited transfers as long as you dont stay longer than 24 hrs.

I haven't considered using an agent as the likelihood of making it to the States for an SC run is very slim. A new mortgage does that to you. As an academic exercise I am very interested how many segments can be pulled on this fare. Would love to see it with a MIA or RDU leg – that would be serious earning.

I have the points for an ASA but with very little travel likely in 2011/2012 keeping WP just for the hell of it is a waste of money. If you don't use WP is it worth anything?

I have also pretty much stoped flying Y anyway with USAirways practically giving miles away.

Dazz81 that's a good fare from HNL - connect that with a JQ special and it makes a very effective way to get to the states in a premium class plus earn serious SC's.

Only issue with these fares can be very tight connections, and lots of overnighting along the way. Still, it's a fun way of doing it and you'll get to see a lot of airports/hotel rooms ;)

yeah you would most likely have to do at least 2 overnights on my itinerary. but id enjoy it! I actually planned 4 overnights with fairly long connections, enough to stay in the city and have a little walk around and explore before moving on to the next place. My overnights were in SFO, LAS, ORD and MIA. Will try and go do that one sometime soonish, perhaps in october.

i did a little biz class sc run just a month ago ex-LAX to Costa Rica. 930 SCs for under 1100 USD. all US domestic legs in A with international in I. mix of required overnights and embedded surface sectors - got to visit alot of places for the 1st time and great SC earn to boot. if u have time and don't mind seeing some central american countries this is also a great option for SC earn besides the usual YUPP/KUPP fares.
