Okay so Hertz have had such low availability of the prestige/fun collection for the past 9 or so months it's close to impossible to book

A new category has popped up this morning, but no make/model yet....

Premium, Convertible, Automatic, Air, PTAR

Will be interested to see if they go with BMW or stick with Lexus/Mercedes

Another one now appears: Economy Elite, SUV, Automatic, Air, HFAR or similar

Again, no photo or make/model yet

A 50% special to welcome the new cars to the fleet would be very welcome :)

However, the earlier mentioned Premium, Convertible, Automatic, Air, PTAR is now GONE :(

So at the major airports you can now book the

Mini Cooper S
Mini Cooper S Cabrio
C200
RX350

Again..

Seems Hertz have allowed these to be bookable again

I hired the C200 out of BNE a few weeks ago. Expensive exercise... ended up being $180 for the 8 hours (with an excess reduction).

Wasn't impressed overall. Nav system wasn't particularly user friendly, it was seriously lacking in power and had a stupid feature that turned off the engine at the lights and started it again when you took your foot off the brake (inducing a noticeable vibration and starter noise). I think I'll still with my Lexus!

I reckon they made a mistake to ditch the Kompressor on the little 4 cylinders. Having the supercharger really gave them a bit of oomph, not fast mind, but a tiny bit of poke which they are seriously lacking now. In my opinion one needs to get to the C250 to get a similar driving experience to the older C200K

I seriously don't like this "feature". Haven't been exposed to it on the Mercs yet, but had a lot of trouble with an Audi A1 hire recently which sometimes didn't actually restart for you which caused minor panic at intersections. I never worked out how to turn the feature off, though I am told it can be done.

The feature seems to be becoming more prominent with several VW models having it also. My limited experience with them was actually quite good.

This will make the second hand market a little harder for those model vehicles.

l've had the eco feature on the last 3 cars I've hired in Europe, and although initially disconcerting you get used to it fairly quickly.

The main advantage in Europe though (and which is why the feature wouldn't translate well to AU) is that in EU there is either a countdown display to when your light will go green, or more commonly the light changes from red to amber to green.

This gives you time to put the clutch, engage first and get the revs up a bit so you don't stall as you take off.

My car here in AU has it as standard. I have had an Audi A4 with it also. You will find that most European manufacturers offer it on a broad range of models and will progressively role it out as standard across the AU model line up.

I'm not sure what the problem is as there is always a button to turn it off.

Yeah my car - a certain Italian marque that you wouldn't expect to have a stop/start system - has it too, but there is a button to turn it off. I leave it on around the city about half the time but it must seem a bit odd to those around me. I have been told that these systems are very popular in Europe as many countries have a tax credit for having them which is about equal to the cost of the feature so it's essentially a no-cost option.

Well it seems Hertz decided to stick with what they already have, but just renew the fleet :(

Mercedes C200 is here to stay, saw at least 4 at MEL airport this week and 5 at SYD airport
All about 1-2 months old

Quite a few Mini Cooper S as well, again, all new!

Would have been nice to have some BMW's in the fleet (yes yes I know Mini) but a wider selection than just C200's would be nice!

The first C200 I rented, I had to return as the stop-start was playing up, would stop/start when not moving and it's quite annoying! Trying to explain to a counter rep what was happening wasn't that easy, but they swapped the car anyways!

Pity the C200.
I had a two day hire from Hertz Las Vegas...

Booked Intermediate.. Auto upgrade to Large via Pres Circle (thx Virgin) - Nissan Impala.
Offered a US$15/day upgrade to C300.
All-in including LDW etc about US$85/day

Now that is a nice car...

Just tried to book a BMW 5 series in Dublin for a couple of weeks over Christmas. $3,800. WTF? Think I'll have to call Hertz....
