Pity the C200.
I had a two day hire from Hertz Las Vegas...

Booked Intermediate.. Auto upgrade to Large via Pres Circle (thx Virgin) - Nissan Impala.
Offered a US$15/day upgrade to C300.
All-in including LDW etc about US$85/day

Now that is a nice car...

I didnt think the Aus Pres Circle worked in the States and upgrades were not the order of the day.

always happy to be wrong.

Okay so now another new category has appeared, no photo

Luxury Elite, Sports Car, Automatic, Air, WSAR

Hmmmm

Still no photo or details for the above, but it's still listed at various locations
Luxury Elite, Sports Car, Automatic, Air, WSAR or similar

The "or similar" has popped up though

There is also now another category
Special, Special Offer Car, Automatic, Air, XZAR

Fingers crossed these two are something nice :)

Presume it matches up with the addition of VW Golf and Passat to the fleet.

VW fleet pricing must be getting good.

I remember reading in a thread there was no fleet pricing for VW's.

There has always been VW Fleet pricing.

It used to be:

5 - 25 Vehicles 5% Discount + $1,495 Dealer Delivery
25 + Vehicles 10% Discount + $1,495 Dealer Delivery
Govt + Selected high profile clients (HERTZ) 10% Discount + $0 Dealer Delivery

On top of that VW Corporate would negotiate a rate directly if the client was big enough.

So the XZAR category has been updated FROM Special, Special Offer Car, Automatic, Air, XZAR

TO

Sedan Wagon Van Ute, XZAR [h=1]Hertz Mystery Vehicle or similar[/h]
Why bother Hertz!

People want to book a car for a specific need

Holiday - Alone, with a partner or family
Business Trip - Alone or with work mates

FAIL

Instead of stuffing around with this, improve the prestige fleet. Look I love the C200 but it needs to be mixed with something else besides the Mini Coopers..

Hertz stuffed around updated the fleet, then went out and purchased/leased a heap of the C200s/Minis again............

Maybe BMW didn't want to lower their vehicles to a Hertz fleet standard, but a nice 1 series, X1 and the 3 series would be better and would compete with Europcar

From a thread on Flyertalk

"The cars I've been told we'll start to see on the East Coast (and slowly move west to WA) - will be 3Series, X1, X3 and X5's"

So seems that Hertz Australia will finally be getting BMW's

Great news IF true

Hertz have had BMws before, not a great success.

Yep I know, but IF the rumour is true, good on them for trying again, times have changed

Was about 6 years ago now

"Hertz in Australia carries the BMW 3 and 5 series luxury sedans. They are not under the usual categories, but can be had for around A$108 and A$138 a day. You need to contact Hertz reservations directly for that."

Hertz have listed some hints of the new vehicles...

Economy Elite, 2-4 Door, Automatic, Petrol A HCAV
Full-Size Elite, 4-5 Door, Automatic, Petrol GDAV
Compact, SUV, Automatic, Air CFAR
Compact Elite, SUV, Automatic, Petrol Air DFAV
Standard Elite, SUV, Auto AWD, Diesel Air RFDD

No pricing yet either

Would take a guess that the BMW's are:

1 Series for Economy elite
3 Series for Full Size Elite
X1
X3
X5

For the SUV's

Diesel X5 is VERY nice if that's correct

I'd be right on top of this if it weren't for Hertz' onerous insurance 'deal' with prestige/fun type cars. Circa $10K excess for some combinations of at fault claims is just so far above normal travel insurance policies that its just too much of a risk. I don't do "hope for the best" in my rentals any more, unexpected things can happen ... when you least expect them heheehe.

I really hope the Full Size Elite is a 5 series .. I'd hardly call a 3 series full size! I know that car rental companies have a different idea of what is full size to what would generally be considered full size though! Would also be good if the BMW's were optioned with sat nav and included tolls like the current Mercs.

I'm happy to risk the Signle Vehicle Accident excess, with my Westpac Plat card covering almost all of the rest (would be out of pocket approx. $450).

Europcar is even worse - E Class Merc has an excess of $7,500 + 10% GST + 3.5% admin fee + airport surcharge up to 25%! Excess from a non airport location is approx. $8,500! Excess from an airport location is approx. $10,000! And that's for any accident!

And I can't see the reason why the Merc should have a higher excess than an Audi A6 or A5 convertible, when the A6 reatils for about the same price and the A5 is dearer than the Merc!

Mind you, there is no reason why an Audi A1, A3, or A4 should have a $5,000 +++ excess either!

I'll have to check again, but I'd formed the impression from last time I looked that specific cases of SVA could be as high as $9900 for Hertz on their prestige line. Even if I buy additional insurance from my normal travel insurers that would leave me $4K out of pocket.

Hertz prestige accident excess is $5,500 incl GST + 3.5% admin fee + airport surcharge, for accidents involving another vehicle. SVA excess is an additonal $2,200 incl GST + 3.5% admin fee + airport surcharge. My card covers $5,500 with a $250 excess, so if I rent from a non airport location and have an accident involving another car, I am out of pocket $250 excess + 3.5% admin fee on $5,500, i.e. approx. $200, for a total out of pocket of approx. $450. It's a whole different ball game if you rent from an airport and/or have an accident not involving another car.

Mind you, Hertz have recently increased their accident excess on standard cars to $3,500 incl GST, so if I have an accident not involving another car, I would be out of pocket $650!

Are you possibly thinking of the Hertz excess on unsealed roads in Tassie, which is $9,900? (+ 3.5% admin fee + airport surcharge, of course!)
