HHonors Gold/Diamond for Velocity Gold/Plat

Question, have just become VA SG but am already HH Gold, is it best to wait till my current HH Gold expires then apply for HH Gold through the VA My Benefits link?
Almost certainly (going by the earlier anecdotes posted in this thread).

To maximise the benefit I would be using the benefit after January 1:

Benefit used 22 Nov - 31 Dec - HHonors status through to March 2014
Benefit used 1 Jan onwards - HHonors status through to March 2015

Note that HHonors status does not expire until April 1 each year (if one does not requalify the Previous year).

Really? To clarify (in real simple terms) being HH Gold now, I will not drop to silver until April 1 2013? (If I don't re qualify. Doubt I will.) If that's the case that is great.

There is no guarantee you will drop to Silver though - they don't have a formal soft landing. I dropped from Diamond to Silver.

I picked up diamond last year but have actually requal'd this this on Base points - so far up to 135K base points with five stays to credit for the remainder of the year - something of a win for Hilton I think...

I think the Hilton membership is fantastic. Due to my Diamond status as a VA Plat, I received an upgrade from the Deluxe room to a Suite at the Hilton Surfer's Paradise the other weekend.

A big thanks to the manager and staff at Hilton surfers for excellent service :D

...or finds some other candy to get Gold back once I drop to silver.

As it stands, the Velocity elites are (or should be) rejoicing, because as long as they keep Gold or Platinum, they will incidentally and easily retain their Gold or Diamond (respectively) status without so much as a fuss (unless, of course, the long-term conditions of the Velocity & elite status agreements change).

So this 'enhancement' by HHonors is of little consequence.

A similar argument made for those who have the HHonors credit card in US (i.e. almost every man, woman and child... or at least those who are wise up on FFPs, like us).

If you don't re qualify for Gold/Diamond with Hilton your status with Velocity is irrelevant :(

????

The Virgin hand up/out is a one of pp.

Well, I dropped down to Velocity Gold, and my online portal seems to have 'reset', and is offering me a free Gold status with PC or HH.

I think many others have also reported that they have either retained their current Gold or Platinum status, or dropped to Gold status, and after Velocity have finished their "review period" on their accounts, when the smoke has cleared they have reset all of their partner status offers.

Not to mention those who upgrade their status (i.e. either the first time, or after dropping an originally higher status). That is, if you are a Gold then qualify for Platinum, no reason why Velocity wouldn't offer you the new higher partner status offers.

So, the way I see it, as long as you are a Velocity Platinum, you can be a Hilton Diamond. No need for 30 stays a year (though a minimum of 4 stays in the first 6 months may be required).......

I think this happens if you change Velocity status. None of my partner status offers reset, but I retained gold, rather than moved around the levels.

Oh well... that does make for a funny perverted way to "retain" your HHonors status if that's all that matters to you - just keep going up and down between Gold and Platinum on VFF :p

Increase in required diamond base points.

A little OT but I think that the Velocity offer is a tier dependent once only offer.
For example I have re-qualified VA Plat but my online Velocity account shows "opted in" to HH even although that was in my last membership year.
If I drop HH status and retain VA status I won't be able to utilize the HH benefit again :(

Assuming it works more than once

I have also dropped to DJ Gold and noticed I have been offered free Gold status.
It will be interesting to see if this sticks because I just know that my +1 will LOVE to do mattress runs every night we stay in Melbourne!
He really enjoys staying at HSW (as do I) and it is quite a hike between both hotels even with the free tram ride

re: Increase in Base Points/Stay Qualification for Gold & Diamond from 2013

Wasn't there talk a little while ago of Hilton introducing a Credit Card here which had comp status with certain spend levels?

I completed a rather lengthy survey from Hilton about a credit card here in Australia so I think it is in the works!

As for the Virgin/Hilton deal, I think it is yet to be seen whether it is a one off thing. It seems rather unfair if it is, I too have an offer for Hilton gold on my account which dropped from plat to gold recently. I don't need to activate it at this stage though, as I am still HH plat until March, I'm not sure whether I drop to Gold or Silver as I only requalified to silver so probably not going to be soft landed to Gold?

Very interesting... I'm DJ matched HH Diamond til end March 2014. I requalified DJ Plat this year after being matched to QF Plat, and my status shows that I'm already opted in to HHonors. I'll probably drop back to DJ Gold in Oct 2013, and if it is indeed true that I get offered HHonors Gold status then, I can wait til April 2014, apply my DJ offered HHonors Gold status, and be HHonors Gold til March 2016...or am I stretching a long bow here???:lol::oops:
