Hilton Diamond through Velocity Platinum status

30 days here, have just called velocity to see what's up. They tell me it's now been escalated, and wanted to confirm email addresses.

Closing the loop on this one, was resolved on June 11 via email.

Has anyone managed to get VA to upgrade an existing diamond to diamond for another year? I’ve created a new Hilton account and about to get VA to upgrade that one then merge but thought I’ll ask to see if anyone has successfully match their existing account while it’s still diamond. My VA Plat expires end of Aug so I have to do it very soon. Thanks

I'm in a similar position. I will be Hilton Diamond till March 2024, but my VA platinum membership ends in Feb 2024, so not sure if this is an issue?

I think I’ll just go ahead and ask them to upgrade my newly created membership to diamond then ask Hilton to merge both accounts. Not my preferred but I’m running out of time

I’m a bit confused! Looking for advice.

I’m going to use the VA benefit to get Hilton diamond. Never held status with Hilton before.

When is the best time for me to apply? I have a stay booked in Feb where I’d like to use the benefits.

Does it make a difference if I apply today, or do I wait until Jan 24?

Understand if I apply today I get till Mar25. Does applying in January extend that to Mar26?

If you want to use the benefit in February, however you should apply first thing in January because in my experience you have to chase it up and it will take at least a month.

I vaguely recall one gets a second shot at it when a plat falls down to gold and subsequently goes back to plat. This does not seem to be the case for me: I fell to gold a few months ago and now back to plat, but velocity page tells me I had opted for Hilton plat in 2015 with no option to change anything. Pretty sure you only get one go each for Gold and Plat (either heading up or dropping down). I used my Plat to HH years ago. Earlier this year, fired off the Gold to HH (only took a couple of days - but you must use the same email address on both VA and HH).

In the early days, yes, this happened. After about 2015 they stopped it.

Good to know, thanks. My gold to gold finally ran out earlier this year after many pandemic extensions and I’ve just applied for the platinum to diamond. My last hurrah.

I thought it’s like qualifying for diamond now which will be valid for 2024 as well. I’m confused. @serfty - are you able to help me understand this? Thanks

If only just applied to the account, then you will have Diamond for the remainder of 2023, all of 2024, and through to March 31st 2025.

I think the only way you can see the validity is on the emailed statements. Check in your HH account preferences that you are signed up for the monthly account emails, and watch for that in the next month.

I have no experience with merged accounts - only single accounts that had a lower/no status.

Seems they have given your new account the attribute of the old.

Where are you seeing the validity? Because with HH, this doesn't seem to be something easy to find.

In any case, if you got HH Diamond now, it should be valid till end of March 2025.

So just after some data from this thread... I have a stay booked at the Conrad Osaka in Feb, but no other Hilton visits on the horizon so I obviously want to maximise the validity after the Conrad stay. When would one suggest I pull the trigger on confirming the status match? Now?

Depends on whether you need it for the Conrad stay, or not. If you can hold out until April 2024 to do the match, then you'll retain the status until April 2026. Do it now - or any time through March 31 2024 - and it will only (!) run to April 2025.

No, you can use to extend... but you could let it lapse, which would see it drop to Silver or base from April 2024, and then do the match to bring you back to Gold through to April 2026. Of course, if your status with VA will be gone before then, this may not be an option and the merge might be necessary. I've got no experience with it, but on the surface it seems to work (TBD what happens with status end dates)
