Hilton Honors Site driving me mad

I've been told by HH that they transfer airline miles twice a month, but in practice I've seen them turn up pretty quickly.

Agree its a much better system than trying to work out eligible rates for normal hotel stay transfers/chasing it up etc like seems to happen with other chains.

Yesterday I received a card in the mail with a distinct blue tinge to it. Says it was sent on the 7th which was before the website decided I was gold. Not sure why they would send me another blue card either.

geez some are lucky.. had a few stays.. im a membr of hilton premium club. and only stayed twice.. (about to go on hols so hopefully some bookings in there and they will do the same for me!)

Gold HH is nice... exec club floors. :)

Hmm, I stayed at Melbourne on the Park last week, and I would say the gold coloured card made no difference. Mind you, I do think the hotel was full.

that sucks.. im there next Thursday night.

Ive noticed i have a "fast track to gold" going on in my profile.. im currently silver.. so instead of 16 stays ina year i have to do 4 in 4 months and i get fast tracked to gold... handy!

Q1: Did you get a complimentary breakfast?

Q2: Was you HHonors number in the booking prior to your arrival?

Q3: Were you HHonors gold when the booking was made?, and

Q4: If you appear to have received nothing extra, did you at least ask about this upon Check-in?

Re Q1: You should always get "an amenity and/or services", even if no Lounge upgrade available. At the Melbourne HOTP, this generally is in the form of a complimentary Continental breakfast.

Re Q2: If no Gold VIP status via you HHonors number is apparent, the hotel will no know to apply any available "In-Hotel benefit".

Re Q3: Status is not normally refeshed if this changes between the time of the original booking and the date of the stay. So they may not have known you were a Gold VIP in that event. (This can work both ways sometimes! ;) )

Re Q4: Even with all the above, a staff member may not notice your VIP status, in which case it can not hurt to ask.

I have been through issues 2, 3 & 4 at this hotel, and have been able to resolve the issue. As a matter of record, 4 gold stays for 3 Exec level upgrades.

These days, my plan A is to always the "HHonors" check in area brandishing my pretty card; half the time I am whisked to the exec floors for check in (even when I am not being upgraded).

Not sure whether I booked pre or post gold, but it was at a rate that included breakfast, so it was going to be hard to give me a complimentary breakfast. I went through a few issues (like my premium club discount had not been applied to the booking).

As for any room upgrade, I had an extensive choice of two rooms. As I said, I think the hotel was full.

I'm not overly concerned, but I did get more from Hilton Brisbane and Hilton Cairns as a blue member, than from HOTP as a gold.

I always hand over the card at check-in, just to make sure they see the colour of it. In some places (like KL), as soon as the right coloured card is placed on the counter, the check-in supervisor swoops to ensure they do everything possible to assist.

In some places there is no need. As walk up to the desk "welcome back" :)

I did hand over the card, and I got the welcome back to our hotel comment, so no issue there. I just don't see that I got anything as a result of being Gold. At other Hilton's (as a blue - or maybe they just do it for everyone), I have had things like complimentary bottles of water in the room and such like.

Hmmm ... Many HH Gold or Diamond VIPs normally don't book breakfast inclusive rates. ;)

Do you receive an email from Hilton Honors a week before your stay:

Subject: Your Upcoming Hilton HHonors Stay

Dear Mr serfty,

Thank you for choosing Hilton on The Park for your upcoming visit to Melbourne. As a
Hilton HHonors(R) Gold VIP, you are very important to us. We appreciate your business
and want to make your upcoming stay as comfortable and rewarding as possible.

Following is a summary of your reservation information: ... blah blah blah

If not, I would guess they were not aware of your Gold status when arranging the rooms in the 24 hours before you checked in. If they had known you would have had a very good chance of being upgraded due to accomodation requirements.

In any case, as a Gold VIP on a breakfast inclusive rate sans upgrade you could have requested an amenity; they should have offered something specific or given you a choice. (eg. a box of chocolates, bowl of fruit, drink vouchers, bottle of wine).

Remember, "The Squeaky Wheel Gets the Grease!".

A pleasant request for an amenity in these cases of brings pleasant results. ;)

Damnit... the site is now doing that "retrieve a reservation that doesnt show" white page when the info is out in.. when will they get this site right!

Normally I don't. But sometimes the quoted rates including breakfast are cheaper than those that don't

I will remember this for next time. :)

During my migration from Silver to Gold, I had 2 reservations that were booked as Silver, but I was Gold when I checked in.

For the first one, I became Gold literally 1 hour before checking in! (I had a missing stay I telephoned through and they posted it on the spot making me Gold. ). I previously was Gold, so still had a Gold card, although I didn't use it when I was silver.

So off to the hotel I go. They expected me to be Silver, and had me in a reasonable room mid hotel. Show the Gold card, and I asked if my Gold status had been noted. a few taps later and I was moved to the Executive Floor. (they stuffed up my rate by $10, but didn't complain - 2 drinks at the Exec Club and a few nibblies made up for that!).

The next night I was staying in a different Hilton in Australia. Same Deal. Rocked up to the hotel. Was pre-allocated a reasonable room on floor 3 I think. Showed my card and asked if my Gold status had been noted. Sure enough it hadn't and they quickly moved me to a much better room on a much higher floor.

So it does pay to show your card and check (although a "Do You know who I am" type attitude will get you nowhere.)
