I have received my 20,000 HHonors points :).

And on 1 January an email arrived:
Congratulations! You are receiving this Reward Certificate for accommodations at one of over 3,900 hotels in more than 90 countries
Description: You've received this reward certificate because you've met the purchase requirements with your Hilton HHonors Macquarie Platinum Card. This reward is valid for one complimentary weekend night for a standard room at participating hotels worldwide, subject to availability.
Expiration Date: 31-Dec-2014

Certainly worth paying the annual fee as I will probably use my certificate for Conrad Hong Kong (better value than Conrad Singapore).

I'm not sure if I will renew though as I have re-qualified for Diamond until March 2015.

I'm debating the benefit of a $12000 spend for a free night - it would depend very much on what sort of value you can extract out of that free night, and what availability, I guess.

It is not a free night, it costs you $295! You may spend the 12k$ in the very fist month, but you only receive the certificate upon the anniversary of your full year and only if you continue with the membership for another year i.e. you cough up another $295. Follow the cash follow not the hype! Fine print does it every time....

40000 points @ 1 point per dollar means 1 night at most hotels and even less at some.
No point in having gold if the room rate is not less 20% as it is usually way over my companies max room price.

$40,000 spend means 40,000 QF points if Qantas option is chosen i/o HHonors. Wouldn't they, QFF points, take one farther?

But if you have a heap of stays planned and were a fiend for breakfast and drank your weight in exec lounges...

The QF points would still be better value. :p

It's very person but I think my own calculation is up thread. Not very good value, IMO.

I get value from the Gold when I do stay at Hilton, and I would not get Gold just from stays. It suits me, may not suit others....

The 40k discussion is about diamond, and incrementally it's probably not worth it for most.

Hey guys
i just received a letter from Macquarie HHonors Macquarie platinum cc.....$99 first year, 40K bonus HHonors points with eligible spend, one reward weekend night certificate with $2K spend...worth it????

I already have this card but if I didn't, I would take this offer.
The free night alone is worth much more than the $99 first year fee.

What is the 40K points worth? at a c/point rate?
Is there something you can actually redeem for this?

All depends on how you use your points, but I would value 40K HH at ~$200 AUD (ie. 0.5cpp). And the free weekend night cert value is even more variable depending on when/where you go. Is there any Category limitation? But that could be worth quite a lot at a Cat 9.

Anyone got a link? Better still, referrer bonus points link?? :)

Did a little digging and discovered that the Weekend Cert can be used at all properties, EXCEPT:

So there's still some value at high end properties not on this list. For example, Conrad Maldives!

Surprised the Conrad Maldives is not considered to be a distinctive property!

I got the email, but I think I deleted it. I was also told about it last time I phone HH (about a week or so ago).

I think they've learned how to make plenty of $ of those who come bearing these certs. The base room accommodation is only a small fraction of your total spend, whereas you are much less "trapped" in Koh Samui

You're lucky. It was still there in the inbox! HHonors Macquarie card link.

I was planning on getting this card but hadn't gotten around to it. I got the email too and was glad I was a bit lazy :D

I believe the transfer rate is 10k HH points = 1.5k QFF points. So pretty poor value. If you must transfer out, I think AA are partners too, and this would obviously be better value, but as usual with hotel miles, the most value is within their own hotel chain.

I've got a bit of card fatigue. So far this year I've only taken out the Velocity Plat Amex, but that was a truly outstanding offer. I think I'll pass on this one.
