I will be coming from OzFest on the Sunshine Coast ten day earlier as I have taken leave.

I just have to work out the most creative routing to get there. :shock:

I'm coming in from AKL on CX198 out on QF118. Then it get's complicated...home in MEL around 25/08/18.

No. Choose which ever flight suits you. Generally people start to depart after 6:00pm.

You can do economy. Too easy as a Platinum.

Does flying Cathay Dragon out of Hong Kong still count as One World for lounge access? Even if you say fly Cathay Pacific into HKG?

Depending on status it seems to. Lounge access - over 600 lounges , multi destination flights Wiser heads required.

Ok, well i was planning to transit between Osaka and Beijing or Shanghai around that time using QF points so perhaps i might be able to make it 10 June... 9.20am CX from KIX gets in about 12.20 so not sure when the festivities are planned to commence (unless i flew in the night before) and then take a 6pm or so CX or whatever Cathay Dragon designation flight up to Shanghai or Beijing...

You should be fine on Cathay Dragon, as they are a *O affiliate. Partnerships | About Our Airline - Cathay Pacific

The EK lounge will be the only one you won't be able to access.
