Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Just booked Disneyland for Saturday. (only because I love rides, and have been downtown several times)
Will endeavor to be back in time for dinner - should a Saturday night dinner be arranged.

I dusted off my Octopus card which I hadn't use since before COVID. It was purchased in the 00's.

I downloaded the "Octopus" app onto my android and after scanning (NFC) found it has been "deactivated" (as more than 1000 days since last use).

Reactivating was simple and found a HDK33 balance. Seems I have to register to top it up with the app but for that I need a +852 telephone number.

It was last used June 2019 with the A23 bus (Sha-Tin to HKG - HKD22.30),

Interesting. The Octopus website seems to indicate that only cards issued on or after 1 October 2017 are subject to becoming inactive (and being charged each year for being inactive).

My cards (obtained well before that - I suspect around 2008), were used in early October 2018, and then not until December 2023 (over 5 years) and didn't go inactive at all. (I also checked them via the app before heading to HK), so it does seem that the older ones are not subject to becoming inactive.

When I scanned using the app it came back indicating inactive, but I could reactivate it and it would be exempt from any reactivation fee. So I reactivated it again using the app. Only after doing that could I see the residual balance and the last X transactions. No further could I go without a telephone number beginning with +852.

Note that those with recent iPhones an Huawei devices may be able to load a virtual Octopus onto their phone.

I'll be HLO and many years since I’ve been to HKG - can’t recall the procedure . I’m guessing ( hoping) that I won’t have to wait for QF 128 check-in to open to enter the terminal? But probably will for lounge entry?

We were HLO last year for QF30 and had to wait for checkin to open, but that may have been due to my mobility assistance request. Check-in opened at 3.45pm after about 15 mins of staff fluffing about.

You should be able to enter the CX lounges @RooFlyer ?

Website FWIW states QF opens at 7.30 am. Enjoy 🥂

What is the schedule for meeting on Sunday?
Needs to be discussed. Many are departing on QF128/QF30 scheduled 19:30/20:00 which means getting to the gates from boarding from 18:30/19:00.

Also, an opportunity to catch up with @drcam who'd be boarding 15:00 exists.

There is the issue of checking in as well. Can all OLCI? Will any have checked luggage?

There was the old trick of checking in at Central/Kowloon - but only relevant currently for CX (and HX).
