HKG lounge crawl 9 June 2024 (the annual Asian lounge crawl)

Hope the QF HKG lounge looked after you all.

They did and with a little convincing Champagne was handed out, in 2018 I was the token P1 travelling with 16 of my closest friends, this year it was @jswong and @Ansett travelling with their closet friends :)

We 'apparently' cleaned them out of Champagne after one round!!

These runs have generally been based around the Queen'sKing's Birthday long weekend being that with the second Monday in June.

That would be good. I'll combine it with another summer trip to Japan.

Sunday 8 June. Tempting. I'll have just finished a Balkans tour and have a few days before I begin an Arctic cruise in Paris (charter flight out). Fly back to SIN or HKG in between?

Finally, home. MEL immigration is a zoo if and only if your passport can't be read at the Smart Gates. Double the usual Uber fare home but still better than taking a taxi in Melbourne. Now for some hard grind until my next trip.

Most likely around the same time next year and I am will hand back the reigns to @JessicaTam who I was surprised to see waiting for us in the Wing F lounge. There were a few that thought I new Jess would be in attendance however I can 100% this was not the case.
On the weekend everywhere from LAX, LHR T3 and NRT were mentioned! 🤫 I will be in NRT next month so will scope out the range of lounges.

The Sunday of the June long weekend will be the date for those wanting to organise days off work.

NRT has nice lounges. With sushi! Never been disappointed with a lounge there. It has the best of all worlds.

Well, if Australia can be in the Eurovision Song Contest, then the Annual Asian Lounge Crawl could be in LHR!

Narita has a terrific 'lounge location' map

Hong Kong weather in early June is typically atrocious. Rain rain rain and maximum mugginess. I am wondering whether it might be viable to alternate annual Lounge Crawls a bit, perhaps with NRT and ICN.

I try to bring as much variety as airports allow. We actually haven't been to HKG for a few years. Post 1 of this thread gives the complete list of where we have been.

Thinking about NRT for next year. ICN would not be a good candidate with only the one lounge for general OW access.

Finally getting around to posting some pics from the event...

Lounges #1 & #2 - Cathay "The Wing" First / Business

Dan dan mien - very nice!!!

Duck leg confit. Pretty much the dish of choice for our table and I can see why. Delicious!!

IMG_2091.jpeg

Lounge #3 - Qantas. Quite nice with excellent position for views over the tarmac.

Prawn Hargow with Signature Special Sauce. P1 Champagne was Laurent-Perrier (if I'm not mistaken). As it turned out, this was a "limited edition" glass given we (supposedly) cleaned the Lounge out of its single bottle. 🤔

Lounge #4 - Cathay "The Deck" Business. Just next door to Qantas and easily the busiest of the day.

IMG_2101.jpeg

Lounge #5 - Emirates. My first time in an Emirates lounge, and to be honest, pretty much what I was expecting.

More to come in a subsequent post....

Lounge #6 & #7 - Cathay "The Pier" Business (no images) / Cathay "The Pier" First.

Crab meat focaccia, asparagus, cherry tomato, green peas and radish. Fresh flavours - really enjoyed this.

Pan seared Atlantic salmon with mashed potato and tomato, chive beurre blanc. Beautifully cooked, albeit a small portion.

Coconut panna cotta. Again, quite small but very tasty.

A very quick straw poll please.

If you would be interested in LHR T3 in 2026 (not next year) please 'like' this post. 👍
If you would be interested in LAX in 2026 (not next year) please 'wow' this post.
If you think I am crazy for even suggesting it, please 'haha' this post. 🤣

I am getting in early for this just in case - that will give people time to grab awards if necessary. If there is enough interest I will start a thread so discussion can occur there.

Is SIN a consideration?
