Holidays and Airport 'Chaos' since COVID

fairly minimal security at PER T4 this morning, business lounge was packed.

F100 Flight being operated with minimum cabin crew, one must have called in sick and couldn’t find replacement crew.
Affected passengers bumped to the later flight to operate with max allowed with only two crew (luckily not us)

The carpark queue continues at SYD domestic. They have 2 security queues: one with the snake outside that goes behind the VA check in desks, then the other goes through the permanent snake. The carpark queue feeds into just two of the scanners. Not sure if it’s ultimately quicker and slower though. It took me half an hour from 3:55pm in the carpark snake. The free bottles of water being handed out in the carpark queue was a bit worrying. Airports never give anything away for free.

Not just an Australian problem: landed at 2115 at LHR last week and the queues to get to the border were over an hour long. Even with an AUS passport…

I waited about 30 minutes for the egates at T2 in March
We passed thru T5 in late March and was only a matter of minutes.

Some gates were slower than others with peeps forgetting to remove face masks and other face coverings…

Headed to the UK in two weeks - 9pm flight with Emirates to Dubai. Any tips on when we should get there? Other tips on making the experience any less arduous? Will be myself plus wife plus two boys 8 and 10.

Many thanks everyone; hopefully it has settled down a little after the holidays

As @AIRwin noted, this was an arrival at LHR T2. A complete scrum. Even heading for the AUS ++ line looked like a wait of over an hour. The line went through the normal zigzags, but then continued down a main corridor and doubled back in itself again.

I think an airport employee took pity on us with Mstr. Scarlett in tow and the time being after 2100 and sent us down the family line which meant a wait of only 5 minutes. We were at the baggage carousel for about 40 minutes waiting for a bag (which it turned out had been left at ARN 😡) and none of the other pax had started showing up to collect their bags.

My brother and his young family were ushered into the family queue last week. Somehow they lost my father who ended up in a separate queue, which ended up being over an hour long.

That said, when I flew into LHR in 2019, it was a couple of hours wait. It’s not a new phenomenon.

Mrs Jase returned from SYD today on QF.
Said SYD QF terminal was a absolute debacle. Her flight was delayed by about a hour and her and several others didn’t receive their baggage in ADL. QF staff told them that due to “staff shortages” some baggage this weekend may not reach its destination.
