Holidays and Airport 'Chaos' since COVID

This awful terminal is one of the main reasons for me to stay loyal to Qantas (mainline). Just so that I can avoid the mess of the budget terminal.

I have to walk through that rubbish when VA parks there all too often, and I feel it devalues their brand (Jane, are you reading this - I don't want anything to do with JQ or Rex!)

It is a devalued design and a cheap build - nothing to be proud of APAC.

It was the cheapest design possible......
It predates them! No fundamental change since AN left the building. I vaguely recall it was AN J checkin to the left and whY to the right. But I could be wrong.

Now you are really testing the memory!

Serfty will know.

The elevated roadway and new terminals (both T2 and T3) went up just prior to the 2000 Olympics. DJ was still operating from the shed and JQ hadn’t been born. So AN and friends (Kendall) had T2 by themselves?

No, the shared use terminal - Jetstar, Rexy and VA2. It’s just a terrible layout really jams up quickly.

The T4 development was deliberate - look at how CNS departures is now structured (and OOL,NTL to some extent). Keep the punters at the retail outlets, not at the gates.

Nup! When AN went under, I lost 0 points as I did not even have a Global Rewards(?) membership. As far as I was concerned, there was "nothing" to the South of the MEL international Terminal.

As an aside- the new security at the Qantas Sydney Domestic terminal is so much better, I was through in a breeze just before Christmas. No laptops or aerosols out of bags anymore which makes such a difference.

On the flip side this tells me that they don’t expect any major changes to that terminal anytime soon. And that Qantas lounge keeps rotting along…

I think this is where discussion upthread subtly moved from SYD T3 to MEL T4, but the issues are much the same....

Yep. SYD T2 went from servicing one full service carrier to 3 LCCs and growing. Apart from the VA lounge premium entry, a lick of paint is about all that’s changed to the infrastructure since 2001… It’s a horrible dingy space like the older MEL piers.

If you look closely at the Rex check in end of T4, look at the exterior and the roof, you will note that the old ‘Tiger Shed’ T4 is still in existence, they have just built around it. It was never demolished. The old Tiger T4 boarding gates are apparently now staff offices.

The T4 arrivals Cage did get the boot however. Certainly was an interesting arrivals experience back in the day.
