Holidays and Airport 'Chaos' since COVID

Really, you'd think they would realise that half the world wears bra underwires and have technology that can cope with that. I always get that too, even with a very modest bust, but then, I always get the full treatment
It’s like a man designed the scanner or something. At BNE the other week I got frisked because the machine highlighted my bust. The security person said “it has issues with folds”. I couldn’t work out if they were calling my breasts “folds” or if it was something to do with fabric.

Went through SYD terminal two about an hour ago. Busier than anytime over the past two years but not like the photos from last Friday/Saturday. If you do online check-in and have no luggage you go straight through. No security queue. Check in for Virgin looked ok. Check in for Jetstar looked like a zoo. Seems like they all have luggage. I guess you can't teach an old Bogan new tricks.

Wouldn't want to be flying out this Thursday or Friday with any airline.

Glad that my recent trips were before this, but it's hard for those needing to fly at the moment. I hope it's not like this in the middle of the year when I next fly.

Doe they really think $50 Woolies vouchers are the answer??

Rather condescending, isn't it?

It's time the close contact rules went in to the bin for every industry, get on with it. It's hobbling the economy and people's day to day lives.
Well, that's really terrific, but I don't want to be patted down by a potentially infected operative. YMMV.

Understandable but literally everyone is potentially infected including you and me right now
Yes, but I don't think I am, and don't really want to be.

Maybe I've already been infected and may well be in the future, but there shouldn't be policies at airports which make it more likely.

This fatalistic approach is somewhat counter productive, I think.

Politicians shut down the travel industry due to Covid, and only extended JobKeeper to Australian owned employers and excluded foreign owner employers (like Swissport etc). With all airlines and airports reliant on foreign-owned contractors, who had to lay off most of their staff, these decisions aren't looking so clever now are they?

And similarly, airline management cut costs, laid off specialized staff and expected to collect Jobkeeper payments forever, and letting all the expertise leave their industry, why go to all the bother of running an airline when you can WFH and pick up government money for doing nothing?

And what about all the opportunities to simplify and get efficiencies into the business while things are quiet? Nope not doing that! Zero long-term or medium-term planning, myopic short term management not fit to run a business.

Meanwhile, LHR T5 is relatively serene. I’d forgotten how special the BA 1st checkin experience is. No line to check bags, no queue at the dedicated security check and directly into the lounge.

I’m sure the bunfight in Oz is temporary as things get back into full swing.

How many people calling in sick for duty are actually in the queue themselves sneaking in a school holiday vacation?

Employers generally (not necessarily in aviation) have claimed this is a big problem. The quote I read was applicable to Victoria but may be similar or identical nationwide.

Friday could be a problem then, well for QF anyway. I can’t see 100% of staff across all these employees volunteering to work the public holidays. Friday is going to be huge demand wise, everything looks full.

Virgin staff at the big ports are in house part and full time, fairly sure they offer more annual leave to compensate the PHs, so wouldn’t expect as many issues over in VA land.

Wouldn't they be less likely to chuck a sickie when public holiday penalty rates are on offer.

I think it's a pretty low judgement of shift workers as lazy sods who can't be bothered working. Whereas the reality is exactly as you outline.

Is Good Friday triple time? It is in my industry.
Wouldn't be triple for them I don't think, my bet would be double. Lucky you with 3x, I "only" get 2.5x!
