Hotel quarantine experience when returning to Australia

Two police women came to the cell door today, said "open the door". I thought oh dear hubby would be arrested for asking everyone what pre-caution measures they had taken to ensure our safety. But they wanted to know why we did not answer the hotel phone, a nurse was calling to check up on us. Hubby had knocked the phone handset off. Phew! 🤣

You guys had better not break the law then as you might not make good cell mates when residing OHMS.

Well the way things are going in Sydney, it may be in the middle of a Sydney lockdown when you are released from your prison ;)
Hope the lockdown will not affect our release date. I will cry hard 😢. We have all sorts of appointments set up during the week of our freedom. Boxes from London to be delivered the first day we arrive home.

Yes the spread of this Covid-19 around Sydney is quite alarming. Our office/warehouse is out in Western Sydney and there are cases in adjacent suburbs. Looks like time to mask up,
Those poor folks who had arrived from Sydney into Perth yesterday had to either fly back to Sydney or do 14 day quarantine at their expense i believe. No allowance is being given to vaccinated travellers and that seems quite unfair.
Probably time for you to start watching Jack Irish with the latest two episodes on Iview.

Agree, Sydney situation appeared to be a real concern - now the NSW health minister is in iso. NSW is being locked out by all states. Maybe they should lockdown for a week to stop the spread. It is just too risky to travel anywhere.
Will take on your recommendation to start watching Jack Irish on iview to pass the time. However I have plenty to do and not feeling motivated enough in this locked room.

Yes i get my second shot in early July and the WA Government is ignoring those who are fully vaccinated.
School holidays look like they will fizzle out for several states.
People we know are all cancelling their trip plans.

Tasmania has had an influx of bookings from Victorians.... with all the poor NSW holidaymakers cancelling :(

You can't plan anything at all even within the state. And even once in the place, there's no guarantee you can even get back home, or avoid a 14 day and multiple test regime.

@Myrna

The description of your room is very similar to mine. Are you sure it is Novotel Darling Harbour and not the Novotel at Central?

And yes, we were told that after 2 rings and the phone not being answered, the police will come knocking.

I am hoping that there is comfort in knowing you guys are not the only ones going thru this quarantine process.
When you want two pillows and they deliver one does introduce you to sharing.
i did have my laptop, ipad and personal computer so i did investing to kill time seeing making frequent flyer points and. Miles had moved off the immediate agenda.
With those who flew to Perth from Sydney getting a quarantine offer you are certainly not alone.
Walking inside a hotel room is difficult to get real exercise.
Anyway another day in the countdown is over and sunlight will be coming before too long.

I thought it was Novotel DH as it was dark when we arrived, but you are correct it is Novotel Sydney Central. Our cell overlooks a tall building. yesterday the phone rang and hubby decided to answer it: Her Majesty Australian prison Novotel, cell 1125, inmate (our name) speaking. The nurse had a laugh!
After that police visit, I check to make sure the phone handset is on and not off.

I know we are not alone in this punishment.
There are 5 pillows now and all hard as rock. They don't have pillow menu 😂
A girlfriend complained that her commodity trader husband inherited a large chunk from his father, and spent most of his time during the working from home lockdowns on the stock markets buying Tesla shares and bitcoin. He has been doing well but the market volatility spooked him.
It is too risky to travel. We had to return to Oz and it did feel very strange to be at the airports and on the planes after 20 months.
Hubby continues to do his walking exercise back and forth from door to window!
Counting: it is day 5 - serving 33% of time - 9 1/2 days and 30 meals to go 🤣

Ha! Mine was cell 925 so we have the same building, same view!!

Well, today I finally received my Quarantine invoice from Qld Health, only 14 weeks after I got out, and only two days after they claimed to have issued it. Pay by BPAY, Post Billpay or bpoint, so looks like no AMEX option.

Reducing the community transmission of COVID-19 has been a key strategy to keeping Queenslanders safe. As a consequence, there has been an extraordinary number of people undertaking quarantine in government arranged accommodation in Queensland.

This has resulted in the requirement to issue a significant volume of invoices on a daily basis. There have been delays in the issuing of invoices as systems, processes and validation of data has been introduced for an activity for which there was no precedent.

Your patience and understanding for the delay in issuing your invoice is appreciated. You have 30 days from the date of this invoice to make payment.

Yes, we have 14 weeks to send your bill, and you have 30 days to pay it. Now what was that they were saying about unpaid invoices?

Cheers skip

So if you are not a Queenslander then presumably there is no need to pay. After all they were only 'keeping Queenslanders safe'. The parochialism is endless ......

Shout out to you @Myrna. I’m following along with your tales from the cell block, so keep them coming. It’s not a great experience for you, and I hope it will all be worth it in the end. Sending you support.

Thanks, Seat0B for your support. We are being sustained and kept sane by daily amusing chats from cove. This afternoon kpc tel us at prison hotel for a chat and he got the Spanish inquisition 🤣 - what was his relationship to us and the purpose of his call.
The prison hotel is now a hot spot in the City with the Sydney lockdown.
