How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Status: HH Diamond
Property: Hilton Surfers Paradise
Dates: 7 June - 10 June
Rate: $160
Booked: King Guest
Received: King Relaxation Suite

Highest upgrade I've had at this property, but I think now that the Relaxation Room is better. It has a wall of windows looking out to the sea. The King Relaxation Suite has two "spaces" but no door in between, just a wall. So when the +1 crashes early you still need the footy down low.

Checkin - there is ALWAYS a queue at the desk. I checked in at 10:20 pm and had to wait 15 mins.
Lounge - is getting very lame. Dinner offerings whilst usually a curry with rice, are just eew. Plus two nights/days the nice view side was closed for a function. On checkout we had a late flight was was told if we stayed in the lounge past 6pm we'd have to pay for the canapes...... no thanks.
Breakfast - Chaos as usual. Staff try very hard, I think perhaps too much is "cook to order". Whilst nice, it's just too much for the chef to cook everything.

Property: Hilton Sydney

Date: End of May
Rate: $239 (less 20%)
Booked: King Hilton Guest Plus

Received:
King Hilton Executive, WiFi, Exec lounge, late checkout to midday, Breakfast in Glass.

One of my not-so-good stays at Sydney Hilton - they absolutely refused to upgrade beyond the Executive Level (I've gotten a suite or a Relaxation Room in all but one other case). Executive Lounge was over-run and there were not enough staff to cover the people there - food ran out. Same thing at breakfast the next morning.

Hopefully my suite upgrade success will return next time. I have warned everyone in the lounge and in Glass that there are a horde of fanatical Frequent Flyers that are (mostly) Hilton Diamond coming to stay in a few weeks!

Have any of you ever seen comments like this in your booking? No idea why they are exposed to me.

thanks for the review, I am staying here in a few weeks for 2 nights. Didn't realise it was a refurb, thought it was new! Looking forward to sharing my feedback

I quite like the Gold Coast hotel in general - a nice relaxed feel. But judging from Muppet's photos, the suite looks awfully bland...

This has cropped up before. It has something to do with a flaw in the Hilton booking system that someone allows the guest to see comments left by the hotel, possibly from a previous stay. Or is your stay imminent? Which property? Some very intriguing coding.

Serfty has the details on how this works.

Just bring up your booking, then select "book again at this hotel" and commence the process (but don't actually book), during the new booking process the comments would be revealed from the previous existing booking.

Thanks for that Flashware....I needed a good chuckle!

I do so look forward to countless hours with a good red and the fireplace reading little gems like this one.....
1.2 SERVICE STANDARDS: GUEST TELEPHONE COMMUNICATION
1.2.1. In telephone contact with guests, the hotel must ensure it follows these requirements:
a. The phone is answered within three rings.

At HSP they read that as:

a) the phone is answered within three orbits of Saturns rings!

Interesting. Mine is for an upcoming booking (but only one of two active bookings). A glitch I guess. The stay is next week. I'll have to report back on the Assistant Manager's meet and greet and "V2 Amenity"

I just tried that but couldn't get it to work...

Who was the impulsive, mad fool who suggested romance was dead in the muppet kingdom .

Thanks for the report and pics..........I am waiting for the day I start reading about HSP actually being a positive experience.........still I wait and grow older by the month. Shame really. The GC needs good competition but HSP doesn't appear to want be that.

I find it works according to the hotel. If I want to see what HBNE has on file, I view a BNE booking first, then make a new one. The comments field shows previous comments (both mine and the hotels). If I want to see HSW, I view a HSW booking first, then make a new one. HSW comments show......at least that's my experience, YMMV.

Tried at hotels I've stayed at more than 5 times each this year, no good....

Property: Doubletree coughet Surin Beach
Date: Late Early June
Booked: Base room
Received: King Suite

My first suite upgrade ever! Woohooo

So glad of it too. Was a really good sized room, with balcony, size wise, very nice.

Most will know that the Surin Beach property converted over to DT about September last year after doing many years of service as a "
Destination Surin Resort and Spa"

The good:

- Status definitely recognised, and not only because I got a suite upgrade. They are onto status holders from the moment you arrive - a great sign
- The resort area is well maintained and clean. Everything pretty much centres around the large pool area
- Beds are comfy and clean, housekeeping keeps you supplied with water and consumables
- Main restaurant food is quite good, even if the selection is not awe inspiring. Breakfast was large and selection good
- Staff are very good and though mistakes are made, they are recovered from with an apology and good result

The Bad:

- Despite very positive reviews on location at Tripadvisor, I didn't find Surin Beach to be a good location at all. Its far from pretty much everything except a couple of restaurants immediately adjacent which are obviously only there to service the several hotels along the beach road. There are a couple of massage places near the hotel strip, but on investigation are not family friendly ... had to get a taxi into Surin proper for a decent and traditional massage.
- Taxi prices are laughable - this is true across coughet of course but you feel isolated out at Surin Beach and pretty much need to taxi everywhere. That said, the taxi drivers are extremely amiable and knowledgeable (and safe).
- The property was fine, and I hesitate to say this a little, but its old ... I'm not sure much except signage has changed since the old ownership. Bathroom was showing its age, most of the resort facilities overall were quite obviously starting to degrade somewhat. This is a resort, not a hotel, but nevertheless, several aspects of its design really date it, including the narrow and long walkways to ones room.

Overall, I was happy with the stay and the treatment. The management is obviously aware of both its location and age and prices rooms accordingly (ie; its a good solid cheap stay). Staff are always looking for ways to help you which is lovely. You're going to have to taxi out in the evening for a proper meal and a beer if thats what you want though. If the stay is for relaxing poolside then there won't be any problems and its a more than adequate property.

Well, the situation has changed somewhat now and I only require 1 more booking to achieve Diamond. Should I do it? Well, I already know what the answer will be here .....
