How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

There should be a big bottle of water next to the mini bar. It's complementary to all guests staying in executive room.
Very interesting there was no turndown. Did you check-in after 6pm?
It looks like they either gave you a last minute upgrade or that you checked-in late and the room that was prepared for you was given to someone else. Anyway, it's no excuse for the poor experience you had.

I checked in about 345pm so I don't think that was the issue.

Life goes on, but I was a bit disappointed. Particularly as I was a fully paying customer (no corp or gov rate) paying what I thought was a pretty hefty rate for a Thursday in Brisbane.

This hotel is popular among big companies and various politicians (including the PM when he is in town) so it can get pricy during weekdays.

Looking at next week and seeing $650 for the base room, I believe you!!

Booked: Double Guest Room
Received: Double Deluxe

Check-in was easy enough, half recognition of status. Given an envelope (which just had a feedback survey form in it...) and key to the room. Up in the room had the standard new amenity of a jar of nuts and a jar of jelly beans plus 2 bottles of water. 1 drink voucher (as no EL here), however should have been 2 - always get 2 even when staying by myself (and booking for 1) but actually booked for 2 tonight. Queried it and was told hotel policy is only 1 - found that a bit odd as my friend who is also HHD and staying here, checked in 30 seconds after me on a booking for 1 as has 2 vouchers ;) *golf clap*

Hey flashback. We're at the same hotel it seems. I will send you a PM. (PS I got two vouchers ;) )

Bet I won't get mine. Never got the playing cards, and I'm using a 2 year old card. Somewhere they signed me up for "no paper mail" and it's stuck!

I think I'm the same as you. I telephoned to request a card and three arrived . But nothing since my original elevation to Diamond (via VA WP).

Booked: Deluxe King
Received: Deluxe King Plus exec lounge access

Its been 15 years between drinks for me at this hotel, apart from a refurb pretty much same same. Still hear the plumbing and the noise of the cars on orchard comes through when its a Lamborghini or similar trying out its 0-100 score. Didn't hear any noise from the four floors across the road, and a bit old to go investigating that option anyway :)

I did enjoy the exec lounge, breakfast and evening drinks were good, and I found the food options and quality to be above average. No turn down service or welcome gift, water was in the room.

Property: Doubletree Upper Eastside - Cape Town
Dates: February 23 to March 4
Rate: 775 Rand (AUD80) Govt Rate
Booked: King Deluxe Loft Suite
Received: King Deluxe Loft Suite. The usual benefits and copious complimentary water.

It is hard to be critical of an $80 per night room. And this room was one of the best suites I've had. It was spacious, modern, well furnished and comfortable. I was lucky to come across the deal and it was unbelievable value for money. The hotel itself is in an ordinary light industrial area about a 70 rand taxi ride from the V+A waterfront. It would not be everybody's choice but it suited us as we had a car and it was accessible to Newlands for the cricket. You could rely on the shuttle they run about 4 times a day to the waterfront but that proved a little hit and miss when the keys got locked in the van. :) You really need to have a car or use taxis which are cheap. The area wasn't too bad and we walked without problem the 1.3 k to The Test Kitchen, an unbelievable restaurant experience. The staff were universally friendly but not always efficient. The restaurant for breakfast was a shambles but that was a management issue. Breakfast food, apart from the good freshly cooked egg choices, were very poor. Everything tasted metallic. We had room services a couple of nights and that was fine. Aware of the restrictions and limitations, I'd gladly stay there again.
