This has sparked my interesting in the Conrad Bali. Good rates over cup weekend $175~, asked the wife if she wanted to go.. wasn't too keen. It's fine to go by yourself isn't it? :)

of course its ok to go on your own

Did you want to come back?

+1. Will have to ask my wife if she wants to go to Bali - although I think Fiji still wins as they really look after the kids

I do have a soft spot for McGuigan. Didn't he invent the screw top? An answered prayer for travellers who's forgotten to pack a cork screw!
Coming from SA, I am a bit biased towards St Hallett but bless McGuigan if he indeed invented the screw top.

IME.. Conrad Bali is an establishment more suited in a shared mode... :D

Update on Singapore Hilton. 8bottles of water today! It was abit hot and humid today.

Hope you have eaten at Iggy's.Great restaurant. And to think the chef learnt to cook seafood at a fish and chip shop in Ipswich.

No missed that one. Ate out lunch and dinner. Had great chilli crab at Newton hawker markets..only a short walk from the Hilton. Maybe next time.

Property: Hilton On the Park Melbourne
Booked: King Guestroom
Received: Executive King
Rate: $259 Stay Go Play rate

Had booked an inflexible rate ages ago and wasn't able to make it. Hilton Reservations was unable to do anything for me a few weeks out, but on the day of reservation the hotel was full so they let me move it till later in the year (September).

My first stay at this property, all previous Mel stays at HSW

Checked in on 6pm and was told I was upgraded to Exec lounge room on Lev 18 and given letter. No specific mention of coughtail benefits, although breakfast was described that I could take it in main restaurant or exec lounge.
Rate also included free parking and a 2x drink voucher for the hotel.

Actually think the rooms look quite OK despite their age, and whilst I have never heard of the THAI RAL tv brand, it works well and has all digital TV channels plus a decent selection of Fox.
Exec Lounge is quite impressive with views of the MCG (night of Essendon v North Melbourne game) but surprisingly quiet compared to the packed bars downstairs. Attentive staff and a decent selection of alcohol, but the food is pretty basic 'party' fare - hot dishes consisted of pork wontons, curry puffs, arincini balls, then some salmon and rice balls, salad and cheese. OK for an Australian lounge, but nothing compared to its Asian equivalants.
Hours for drinks and canapes are 6-8.30 weekdays and 6-8 weekends.

I was the same until 3 months ago, now HtoP is my default for MEL as they are much more generous with their upgrades (they must have made a note in my profile that I love the relaxation suites :)) I went back to HSW recently and again lousy upgrades so it would take me a while to go back there again. Can't believe they are actually more stingy with their upgrades than HSYD.

Property: HotP
Booked: King Guestroom
Received: King Deluxe plus, which we upgraded to a relaxation suite for $59
Rate: AAA $208

First stay at HotP, and first stay at Hilton as a gold, and they impressed. Staff were lovely from front desk to the executive lounge. Asked for a late checkout and offered 2pm with no dramas. Only thing I found weird was the bed was two singles pushed together. A pet peeve and unnecessary in a suite. The only thing that could make it better would be scrambled eggs and bacon in the lounge for breakfast. :D

Glad to hear my second home looked after you.

And there are scrambled eggs in the dining room downstairs.

I've stayed at HOTP many times but have never checked out the breakfast in the EL. There is a full buffet breakfast in the restaurant on the ground floor, with eggs to order. Were you offered breakfast there?

Thanks to your recommendations, your second home is now my first home in Melbourne, been here on/off for the past 4 weeks. The service at HotP is definitely more personal, they've always taken the extra effort to try to remember your name. So far, all my stays were upgraded to the relaxation suites, only once to Exec Room. Never had that sort of luck in upgrades elsewhere. If you are a light sleeper, avoid 18th floor as it tends to get noisy when the EL closes. Service-wise, comparing with other Hiltons in Australia, they are definitely at the top. :)

Blackcat20, sorry I missed you this morning. Sounds like you had a fab stay. Try the cafe breakfast next time, coffee is still free plus the egg benedict is superb :)

Just arrived Hilton Hanoi Opera. As a lowly gold it was nice to get upgraded to a suite for our 4 night stay. Exec lounge was closed by the time we arrived. 4 bottles of water.

I'm interested to know if/how the air conditioning works and if the room refrigerator actually works. We had pretty much neither during out stay.

Having said that they did look after us pretty well overall including a personalised tour booked from the lobby tour desk. I say personalised as we were the only ones on the tour and so it was tailored to our own likes. I can't remember the tour cost but it was actually quite good value.
