How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Property: Hilton Tokyo Shinjuku
Status: Gold
Date: Oct 2015
Booked: Queen Hilton room
Received: Queen Hilton room

was told hotel full booked during our stay. Although having stayed at this hotel numerous times before, they are fairly consistent about not being too generous in providing upgrades. Something new I've noticed though is the breakfast service provided to HHonors members at Tsunohazu on Level 2.

Rooms very clean and great service as usual.

Is it better than the main breakfast buffet on the ground/lobby floor? Is this for diamonds and golds, if you know?

Have tried both and Level 2 is very similar to the Marble Lounge just more private and quiet. Level 2 is exclusive to HHonors members with Silver & Blue having to pay Yen 3200

Current Gold Benefits at Hilton AKL. They still value your custom in Auckland, full hot breakfast with NO COFFEE TAX, in fact you can have more than one 'proper' coffee.

Upgrade was from Standard twin to a Deluxe Twin Harbour View. Also requested, and was granted, a late checkout of 4pm. Wonderful.

Great stay and the renovations of the lobby are open as of yesterday.

Property: Hilton Surfers Paradise Residences
Status: Diamond
Date: Oct 2015
Booked: 2 bedroom Deluxe Residence - Ocean View
Received: 2 bedroom Deluxe Residence - Ocean View

When on-line checkin opened the only option was a residence on the 22nd floor so I didn't accept it in the hope of getting a high floor.
Checked in at approx 6.15pm and was allocated the 14th floor. I asked for a higher level and was given the 25th floor.
No water in room but delivered when requested. No gift or welcome card (but may have been in the original room)
Staff in exec lounge were delightful. We didn't have breakfast in Salt as there were 4 of us so we enjoyed the continental offerings in the lounge with a view.

Re the Auckland post - that looks pretty much the same as the Diamond benefits, which is great for Golds! I agree, the breakfast at FISH is good, with great service. Buffet range is a bit limited but I've also been able to order off the card and have buffet items without any issue (common in Oz but certainly not in the US, in my experience). They are also reasonably flexible with the drink vouchers, I've used four on one night, used them for room service well after 8:30 - never a problem. Is let down by no lounge, however.

I thought residence guests can't access the hotel lounge. Last time there we witnessed a family being denied access for that reason.

I hope rules have changed as we have a booking there in a couple of weeks although I'm not sure how that tiny lounge can accommodate both hotel and residence guests, unless they open the sea-view area which is usually closed for private functions.

Last time I stayed at SP I chatted to the GM and he stated that lounge access was fine for residences guests. --- That was a while ago now and he is now in Brisbane.

Received: I did online checkin and picked 2 BR Apartment 1817. At checkin (3pm) they apologetically said it was not ready and asked if we were happy with 1917 instead. (we said yes)

I emailed the hotel a few weeks ago and received a reply stating that Diamond guests receive exec lounge access when staying in both the hotel and the residences :).

HSP quirks aside. If a Diamond guest books into the residence can they deny you Exec Lounge access as per the HH T&C's ?
I'd doubt it. The equivalent would be Straitman's frequent upgrades to 2 Bed Suites at HSW. These suites do not come with Exec Lounge access if booked by randoms. There's no way any Diamond booking or being upgraded to one would be prevented from accessing their full range of benefits including Exec Lounge access.

If HSP is trying this on they need to be reported to Hilton Corp ASAP

It's nice to know someone has a brain. If a diamond guest is entitled to lounge access, why should hotel or residences be any different?......the HH diamond guest is still a HH diamond guest regardless! HSP is on a learning curve....and at least at the moment, in the right direction it would seem.

Breakfast in Salt - was told by first waiter that cappuccino was included. When I went to order the 2nd waiter told me there was a charge. I explained that I was told it was complimentary and she happily obliged.

My recent stays at HSP have been in the hotel. However, in the first two years, or so, after it opened, I had several stays in the Residences where I was always provided with EL access. Maybe something has changed, but sounds a bit odd.

The maitre d' at Salt has always removed the coffee charge for me, without asking. When they realise that you are Diamond, there's no coffee charge from what I've seen.

However, some of the Salt staff seem very inexperienced.

Doubletree Amsterdam Centraal
Booked - base on AAA rate
Given- some sort of suite
Lounge access, nothing huge but full breakfast in main restaurant.
On arrival given invite to drinks/party in the Skylounge (top floor bar)- was decent, free proper coughtails at the bar. Turns out that they hold a quarterly party for returning guests and 2 events a year for their event suppliers. This one was an overlap of the 2 so was quite large. Lots of fun and plenty of staff and others to meet.

Hotel that hold parties for return guests?
I like the concept! Should do it in Australia :)

The suite included 2 rooms, a large balcony and a bath but I would prefer the relaxation room as the beach views are spectacular.

Breakfast in Salt - asked the waitress if Diamonds receive barista coffee and was told 'yes' with a huge smile.

And the best part is that there is no charge for that Diamond coffee. :D
