How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Property: Hilton Sydney
Date: 1 July 2016
Booked: King GRP
Received: King Exec
Rate: Prepaid sale A$164

Overall - a pretty average experience

Room choice updated in app to a King Exec on level 37 on the north-odd side at about 11am day of checkin.

Went to EL on 36th for checkin. Given the room pre-allocated (Suites were available).. Didn't push as wasn't going to be using room much, and the staffer commented on the good rate.

No water (or any other amenity in the room on arrival)... (wasn't last time either and i had called to request it). After 15min got a call to ask if water in the room, or given at checkin. I said no and they said some would be delivered. Also had blank channels on the TV (a call to Magic and was told to power off at the wall then back on). Leaving the room 60min later still no water (although I think I might have accidentally turned on DND button on entry) and no water delivered subsequently (although chocolates were as part of turn down)..

Also room clock out by 6min (pet hate - and impossible to fix without a screwdriver).

Internet speeds were interesting using the Diamond code... Got 5.3/5.1 on Wifi, but only 3.1/0.15 using a Wired connection (both at about 4.30pm)

Wandered up to the Exec Lounge at about 6.15.
Fairly busy pre-election and school holidays. Bunch of media types in town for election and what looked like an AFP Security Detail (guess it was probably Shorten's). Hotel Manager made an appearance and was greeting some guests.
Hot food was a Lamb Kofka (later replaced by S&P Squid) and Pumpkin Arincini (pumpkin is flavour of the month). Only regular smoked salmon. A new eggplant salad that i hadn't seen before..

Had breakfast in the morning at Glass.
Got one of the high tables over looking George St which are actually quite good.
At least two more dishes with pumpkin at the breakfast bar.. Also noted some commercial sous-vide style heaters with poached eggs (at 58deg) which I think is new??
Didn't have to worry about coffee tax as wasn't even asked until I had almost finished - just got a tea, and got a coffee at EL when checking out.

You cannot complain too much because as a Gold staying the same night, I received no upgrade of any sort, internet speeds of 1.92/1.85 and my clock is currently running 17 minutes fast....... Glass is a no no for breakfast also.

The recent comments just show a gulf in attitude between HSW and HSYD on their treatment of HH elite status members. That's why I never stay at HSYD and always stay at HSW...

Credit card authorisation appears as some random person ('Kathy' and not Hilton) on my Amex as well.

Also had this, authorisation was for "Kathy Thierl" (Google results didn't return anything) however now it shows Hilton Sydney.

I had the same thing on my statement and actually called AMEX to report fraud (the amount charged was slightly different from my pre-payed booking). They could only see Hilton Sydney and could not find any reference to Kathy Thierl which I found bizarre.

Recent email copy of my express check-out statement from H-BNE came from a persons name with simply "Statement" in the subject coloum. No mention of Hilton at all

I have been advised that 'Kathy' works in the HSYD accounts department.

Saw the same recently but was fairly clear that the $100 was the Hilton pre authorization - agree it's pretty poor display though

Well just recently, I've had a non-posting H-CNS stay (no odd alterations to the 1 night booking) and a 5 night H-Tokyo booking not post at all!

I must admit that I'm not overly worried (I have no doubt I will eventually get the points/stays/nights with retros, but it really is a PITA I'd rather not have to deal with!

The price is also a comedown compared to WA ;)

Did you book as Diamond? Just wondering why you had to argue to receive upgrade.

I did book as Diamond.
They told me half their suites were being renovated and the remainder were full.
I asked if I went online would I see no availability?
They didn't answer directly but offered me a King Panorama Room.
I pointed out that was actually a downgrade and should be a cheaper rate.
Then they discovered a King Executive Panorama Room which was a slight upgrade so I took that.

Property: Conrad Bali
Date: 08-09 July 2016
Booked: Deluxe Family Room
Received: Deluxe Family Room
Rate: $359 USD a night breakfast included.

Sadly as a Gold member I received about zero acknowledgement. There was a welcome letter saying the room had been "specially" selected for me as a gold member and we could have 25% of treatments in the hotel spa. I asked if we could have access to the executive lounge, "yes" for $100 USD a night...no thanks. It's a nice hotel otherwise. I'm guessing it's difficult to upgrade our room really as the family deluxe room is 2 Interconnecting rooms so it's not just a matter of finding an upgradeable room but you have to find 2 of them and they have to be next to each other. I asked if we could have executive lounge access with those rooms, they said "yes" for $100 USD a night...no thanks
Maybe the only option was upgrade to suites and they didn't want to. Sometimes the status doesn't seem to give any benefits at all, it was the case this time.

Property: Conrad London St James
Date: 07-09 July 2016
Booked: Standard Room
Received: King Grand Deluxe Room
Status: Diamond
Pretty happy with experience will be back to this property next time we're in London & has swayed me towards staying more at Hilton properties. Have mostly been a Starwood fanboy so far.

Here's a list of my travels in the past two weeks as a Gold:

Property: Conrad Hong Kong
Dates: 25/6/16
Booked: Superior room using free night certificate
Received: Executive peak view
Comments: Full breakfast downstairs in cafe or continental in lounge.

Property: Hilton Osaka
Dates: 27/6/16 - 1/7/16
Booked: Deluxe
Received: Executive
Comments: Full breakfast downstairs in cafe or continental in lounge. I think I worked out the difference between guest room and deluxe. The former has shower over bath and the latter has the walk in shower and bath.

Property: Conrad Hong Kong
Dates: 2/7/16 - 4/7/16
Booked: Superior room
Received: Executive peak view, but choose mountain view
Comments: Full breakfast downstairs in cafe or continental in lounge

Property: Conrad Macao
Dates: 4/7/16
Booked: Deluxe room
Received: Deluxe suite
Comments: Continental in lounge with eggs cooked to order. No more full breakfast at Grand Orbit for Golds at least.

Property: Hilton Adelaide
Dates: 8/7/16 - 10/7/16
Booked: Guest room
Received: Executive
Comments: Full breakfast downstairs at Coal (with juice and eggs made to order) or continental in lounge. The property really needs a refresh.

Those are some great upgrades as a gold! :)

I had a few issues which collectively annoyed me on my last stay at Parmelia Hilton Perth.
Wifi not working, mini-bar charges which were not mine, breakfast service.
I filled out the survey online afterwards and was pleasantly surprised to get a personal email from the GM addressing my concerns.

Disappointing to hear of the failures PF, but nice to hear of the eamil back from the GM...........

I, at one point in my life, manufactured a range of product which had a flaw with a component I bought in. Over drinks with a supplier one time, I mentioned how much I had spent to correct the failure (money I would not ever recoup) and his reply drove home the whole concept of liability. He said to me, "it's great that you are so proactively fixing the problem at a reasonable expense to yourself, however people expect that the product does not need fixing to begin with"......

Says it all, doesn't it?
