How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

HSP. Base rate. Chockers full but still got a 15th floor exec room.

Here for for the youngest swanning_it's birthday party. I'm trying to be positive about this place, but the myriad of problems of the early years are indeed seared into the memory bank and so far there is little here to repair the perception. Mind you, the lounge is considerably better than those earlier years.

HSP improved significantly over the last two years. I used to be fierce critic but happy to acknowledge positive changes. Shame about Luke's restaurant, it was very good and the new one Catch is... not as nice.

I'll be there tomorrow, ATM upgrade shows exec room but relaxation suites still available so here's hoping...

There were no relaxation rooms showing on line yesterday. I've been trying to understand what I still dislike about this place. All in all, the rooms are an OK size. Get the hotel rather than the residences and elevator problems aren't a concern (although we still had to share an elevator yesterday with one of those oversized laundry carts they have). The foyer is still one of the ugliest hotel flyers I've ever seen and they've dropped that to a new level of tacky with some cheap poolside style funiture and beach umbrellas that look like they were the cheapest ones available in K-mart. The staff leave lots to be desired, at check in yesterday I was left standing whilst one lady chatted with what appeared to be a manager of sorts and another busied herself with something more important than checking in a new guest. Canapes weren't ready at 6 and lounge staff were dismissive. They were not very proactive with offering another spirit drink (I only had two) and wouldn't come near the our table...but the antipasto had taken a turn for the better (combined to make more a cold salad style) and the hot nibbles were good. I'll see how they go today. Might see you in the lounge tonight?

Will go to the lounge earlier to grab some yummy ice cream bars. Tonight probably going for early dinner at Hurricanes next door (highly recommended, your kids would love it) then will settle in to watch the AO final, hoping for another 5 setter Classico...

AO was on in the lounge last night!

With sound on? If yes then good option but they better step up the spirit serve while I'm up there ;)

Btw first time in Australia I'm getting welcome SMS after check in: Good afternoon Mr. Boomy. Welcome to the Hilton Surfers Paradise. We're glad you're staying with us as a Hilton Honors Diamond Member. How is everything with your room so far?

Nice touch!

I got that at the DT MEL a couple of weeks ago. Haven't had it elsewhere yet.

It's very practical if you need anything, instead of calling Magic waiting 5 min on the line just send text.

Some overseas properties like Sheraton Dubai do that as well but it's not yet common at big chain hotels.

Yes, sound on.

I also got that text. I bet they wished they didn't, as I wasn't happy to return to the room at 4pm to find it still not made up, so I took the opportunity to point out a number of short comings.

Happened to me last Wed at H-CNS (before check in and again after check out) and today at HSP.

.

Did you get a response to pointing out the short comings? Texts would be a good change if they are responsive. I sometimes get a call a few minutes after check-in -- which I actually don't like as it is can be an interruption or too soon to properly settle in. text might be a better way to address.

Yes indeed. The duty manager rang me back fairly promptly. I had a long chat with her and she offered a bottle of wine and fruit platter (both of which I think may have been intended as a welcome gift which never arrived, according to the card received), however I declined as I don't believe a complaint should be made with an expectation of a gift. IMHO, that reduces a genuine complaint to a frivolous try on for a few freebies.

My daughter did though, receive a "Happy Birthday" plate of 3 macaroons, which was a thoughtful, and appreciated, gesture.

have had this as the 'standard' welcome gift last 3 stays - of course without the happy birthday. Usually just welcome back
