How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I have received suite upgrades in the past at the Adelaode Hilton, on request at check-in. Rooms are nice. But not one of the better Hiltons in Oz (for now).

H-ADL is one of the stingiest of all Hiltons in Oz. I've stayed in Hilton Perth the same amount of stays as per H-ADL and only once have I not been upgraded to a suite of some sort. H-ADL however is exactly the opposite. Only ever experienced a junior suite once after a service issue.

I've recently transferred my 'loyalty' (such as it is) from Accor (Plat down to Gold) to Hilton (Gold) so have been watching this thread closely, of late.

Disappointed to hear about the Hilton Adelaide, as that's likely to be my main repeat stay (also there this Thursday ... gosh, so many of us :) ). My old Accor haunt there, the Grosvenor, was fantastic for upgrades and other perks for status. I'll be at the Parmelia Hilton in Perth directly afterwards so will compare and contrast.

I recently had a couple of stays in the US (JFK Airport and Garden Inn at Crystal City, Washington) and I don't think the Gold status was recognised in any way, except for some waters.

Gold status should at least get you (continental) breakfast.

They did not offer?/You did not ask?

I stand corrected. At the HGI I did get vouchers for breakfast, but didn't use them (had brekky on the go); at JFK I left early and opted for breakfast in the T8 First Class Lounge.

A quick comment on some North American properties as a Gold:

Hilton Miami Airport.
No upgrade I noticed or pointed out. Not sure if they had a lounge. Got vouchers for breakfast but $5 to upgrade to a full hot meal - not that anyone noticed when I took something hot on the last day. Received usual recognition of loyalty (at all properties) and water each day. Easily got a 1500 late check out as a Gold benefit.

A good enough standard Hilton property (if you want to stay at an airport some 15 miles from South Beach and 15 mins from the terminals) - apparently a lot of people do looking at the check out queues and the full car park. I was doing business nearby so it made sense.

Hilton Financial District SFO
By far the best of the three SFO Hiltons I have stayed at. Got lounge access but only a city view high floor rather than a bay view. Water delivered and a 1400 check out without a problem. The breakfast was just about adequate in the Lounge and they had free beer and (average quality)wine in the evening (but not at the weekends). I think some American groups book one Executive room and several standard rooms looking at the number of people accessing the Lounge on a single card one night.

The location, near China town is about an equal distance from Fisherman's Wharf and the shopping strip on Market so handy to walk to either. It was very popular judging by the time it took the lift to get to the 27th floor.

Hampton Suites - SFO Airport.
Just to sleep before a 0130 flight so not really interested in the amenities. Got a couple of items on check in (water and an energy bar) but a very basic low end Hilton. There are a range of Hiltons near SFO airport - including Embassy Suites, a Doubletree and a full sized Hilton but this was the closest. All I can report is that the transfer bus arrived on time at 2330.

Property: HSW
Booked: King Hilton Guest Room
Received: Yarra Suite
Rate: HH Flash Sale $161/night
Status: Diamond

Stayed for 2 nights in May. 24hrs prior to check in, noticed upgraded to King Guest Room City View. On the day of check in, upgraded to King Executive. At check in, nicely asked whether there would be any Suite available and kindly offered Yarra Suite.

Had a few of my work colleagues staying at the hotel and some of us met for breakfast at the same time. Breakfast was not included in their room rate and had to fill up a form for the breakfast to be charged to their rooms. I was last to provide my room number and the lady kindly mentioned that since I was a Diamond, breakfast will be complimentary for the entire group of 5 :) Coffee tax of $3 imposed although priced at $4.5 on the menu placed at the table.

Usual fantastic stay at HSW and sad to see it leave the Hilton Group

Now that is a nice touch. I bet you were the talk of the group! Did anyone else pay for your coffee? ;)

Pretty impressed with Hilton Adelaide. Made two bookings: a king suite for Thursday night and a standard king room for Friday and Saturday nights. On check in mentioned we had two bookings and the agent tapped away at the computer then said it would be much nicer if we didn't have to change rooms and we scored the suite for the entire stay. Not bad given we booked and paid during the Amex promo either.

Must be because I'm here now too in a King Junior Suite :D

*sigh*

Property: HH ADL
Status: Diamond
Booked: Hilton King
Received: Hilton King exec

Two bottles of water. Yes, that's it - no turndown, no morning paper, no welcome note, and in practice no upgrade (I already have exec access). But I shouldn't be churlish - I did get a high floor.

Aren't exec rooms usually on a high floor anyway?
