How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Govt rate is high and not sure of the source of these rates.

What do you mean by "not sure of the source of these rates"?

The Gov't rate is available from the Hilton booking engine. I just booked my +1 in for Melb.cup @ $199 on Gov't rate.

Thanks to all for your replies. I guess I am just not staying when the cheaper rates are available. Will persevere!

Keep an eye on the promotions and plan ahead, enjoyed BNE for $89 a night over Christmas.

Booked: Queen Hilton Guest Room
Received: King Hilton Executive

A very pleasant stay. I was based on the 16th floor which is the same level as the lounge. For Diamonds breakfast was available in the restaurant for no additional charge. It was one of the best I've had and overate each day! My request for firm pillows was met prior to arrival and I received 2 bottles of water on 3 of the 4 days. No letter from the hotel apart from the standard exec level letter.

The exec lounge was good with plenty of food and drink. My only gripe is that it's closed during the day on weekends. Overall it was a great stay.

Booked: King Guest
Received: Relaxation Suite

Received room at 1pm. 2 bottles of water.
Having stayed at this property about 30 or 40 stays I must say it's the best. I know HSW is all flashy, but the staff here always remember you and they're great on the upgrades. Tonight the hotel is at 100% and I got a suite on an el cheepo rate. I've only missed out on a suite once. (although I can't imagine next week with F1 that my rate will get a guernsey... but that's ok.)

This hotel shows that fancy new buildings aren't necessary if you have the people stuff right... and they do. (although I HATE game days when I can't get a seat at the bar)

Dislike!

I'm going there for the easter long weekend. I didn't realise the lounge was closed during the day as I planned on chilling out there :(

It seems to me that the lounge hours and availability of drinks (alcoholic) in Australia is much more restrictive than the rest of the world. I find the lack of consistency the most disappointing thing about it.

Booked: King Hilton Guest Room
Received: King Hilton Executive

Really enjoyed the Exec lounge - loved the mini pizza's. Overall I was pretty impressed.

Booked: Double Hilton Guest Room
Received: Double Hilton Executive
Rate: GBP93.00 per night (AWA)

Received complimentary water and chocolates.

The exec lounge was being refurbished so space on floor two was turned into a temporary lounge. Food and drink offerings were pretty good in the lounge. (Also The Shipwright Arms across the road serves a mighty fine pint.)

Would definitely stay here again.

Received King City Exec
Also received some choccies in the room I think.

Nice hotel but the lobby is way too smoky for my liking. Don't think I could eat in the main restaurants at all unless they are air-isolated.

Found the lounge small but adequate. Not sure why the Conrads I've been to don't have champagne. Also, seems diamonds only get continental at the main breakfast, and unsure if it can be upgraded (translation issues).

I feel this hotel offer the benefits of status as documented but you are lucky to get anything more.

I think you need to try a few US Hiltons as I believe you would change your opinion.

I agree about the smoking in the lobby. Disgusting! However, dined in the restaurants and no issues with the smoke making its way over there thankfully.

As a gold, I also only got continental breakfast. Didn't have lounge access.

The room was lovely, but I found the hotel was missing something. Perhaps a bit sterile, not sure. Also was a a little annoyed when we turned up at 2pm (check in is 3pm). at the downstairs lobby. Walked in lugging to very large suit cases with my wife limping with her leg in a cast also carrying a couple of bags. I asked where reception was and told check-in isnt till 3pm. No issue there. Just wanted to dump the bags and and happy to go out for a while. No offer to help with the bags or anything. They basically implied I should go away and come back in an hour. No, perhaps you would like to sit and the bar or anything.

Just didn't feel any love at this hotel sadly.

Yes. You beat me to it, straitman. Maybe Daver6 was comparing Australia to some properties in Asia (Conrads, maybe). Certainly not in the US which has the majority of the Hiltons. If, and it's a big if, USA Hilton's have an EL, there's no free booze anyway. If there's booze, then you pay for it.

I agree. Adelaide EL is quite okay, I thought. Yes, it closes on weekends/PH from 11.00am-5.00pm but the drinks (6.00-8.00pm are self serve :D). Wine, beer, spirits (and also Pimms, which I don't recall seeing in an EL, except in the UK).

Hilton Sydney also has Pimms.

I have been known to enjoy a Pimms and Ginger Ale from time to time :)

Booked King Guest on Any Weekend rate
Received King Guest.

Nice hard product, room is ok, liked restaurant breakfast and the lounge seems a good size. Soft product was absolute rubbish.

Issues- no upgrade with no alternative. Normally would get bottle of wine or something.
Late checkout also denied. Hotel full apparently.
Not told of where or what we could have for breakfast/lounge etc. even had to ask where the lifts were. The front desk person seemed somewhat less that useful and helpful.

On arrival into the lounge on Friday not a staff member in sight, both sparkling bottles were empty with no one to replace them.

I don't think we'll be heading back before trying HotP as an alternative. By then the Hhonors changes will have kicked in and I will be staying with SPG I think.
