How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Status : Diamond
Property : Hilton Brisbane
Date : 3 x stays in February
Rate : AAA Stay and Save
Room : King Hilton
Received : King Executive Room, turn down, no note or gift in room.

Stayed 3 times in February at Hilton Brisbane. Good, consistent service at check in. Upgraded to King room with Executive Lounge. Turn-down service one out of three stays (arriving after 6 pm on the others, perhaps not making "the list"), but still disappointing not to receive. Internet wifi free, but seemed very slow and unreliable.
As above, no Lindt chocolates or welcome note in room, or turn-down chocolate as I seem to recall receiving last year. Free 1 litre bottle of still water in room, which I only discovered after the sliding door to mini-bar area was opened during the turn-down service. A herbal tea bag and cup is set out by the bed with the turn-down.
Breakfast buffet in Vintaged restaurant with no extra charges. Parking costs $55, which I seem to recall was $50 previously?

Late last year, Hilton BNE introduced a $10 charge pp to have the status breakfast in the restaurant.

Hmm. One wonders then, if I'm gold, and don't receive an exec room upgrade, so, theoretically no lounge access, where do I get to take my 'free' status breakfast? They'd send me to the lounge specially for the cheapo breaky?

In addition to the gripes I had a few posts ago, I noticed yesterday that they'd also snuck in a extra $40 charge after I left the hotel. I rang them about it ... "minibar various" - so, set them straight on that and am expecting a refund near the end of this week apparently.

Quoting myself here. The promised reversal of the $40 post checkout charge never materialised. I'm really annoyed now. I think I'll just charge back via Amex and let them deal with it.

Late last year, Hilton BNE introduced a $10 charge pp to have the status breakfast in the restaurant. During the lounge 'renovations', breakfast became free again in the restaurant. Now that the lounge has re-opened, the $10 charge has reappeared and still applied last weekend (at least for Gold - not sure about Diamond).

I've had at least 2 or 3 stays after lounge renos and full breakfast in Vintaged has always been offered, so it looks like diamond may not be affected.

Or make a an official complaint. I'd be annoyed as well.

Summary of last few Hilton stays.

Status: Gold
Hilton Sydney: Booked king and got it. Given king exec. Needed a lot of arguing to get breakfast provided.
Hilton Shinjuku (Tokyo): Booked king and received it. Checked online and exec rooms were available. Questioned this and moved to queen exec room.
Conrard Tokyo: Booked and received standard room. Was a long weekend and super busy. No exec lounge access given.

While I'm thankful for what I've got, I don't seem to get the same level of love as some other members. I hate having to argue to get the privileges they promote too.

Property: Doubletree KL
Date: 17-19 Feb February 2013
Rate: $330 MYR (AUD$100)
Booked: King Guest Room
Received: King Executive Suite

Great property in KL, nice and new although the styling takes a bit of getting used to (bathroom is glassed off and its like someone has put the bath in our shower) and quality of fitout is typical malay, complete with non horizontal power points. Lounge food was very good but puzzled as to why Scotch was not one of the featured options when other spirits were on offer for evening coughtails.

I must admit, I don't even ask any more. I simply turn up in the morning at Glass and off we go. If they try to charge me (not that they ever have) I'll pull out my gold HH card at that time.

I wonder sometimes if its just lack of training and knowledge with the staff? A few posts above I mention a staff member at HSW that didn't even know what a turn-down was. If you try to confirm something like a gold HH entitlement to a free breakfast whilst you are staying in an exec room upgrade it probably makes some staff members heads spin - not that there is any excuse in a 5* hotel in my view however.

Markis,

How would you rate the hotel compared to the Hilton KL, if you have stayed there? Just wondering as I was in the Hilton KL last week and they are doing some renovations, and I might be back in KL in a few weeks again and was wondering about the Double Tree instead.

Good hotel, but undergoing some renovations at the moment, mean to be finished in March 2013.

Received free internet, free breakfast in the lounge or restaurant, 4 free waters per day, turn down service and free paper. No welcome letter, other then a generic one explaining the lounge.

Better, much bigger rooms as well as newer with no building noise, although not as good a locale as Sentral, but considering my rate I was very happy!

For mine, I won't quickly go back to the Hilton KL. The staff were great and the hotel nice enough, but its out in the boonies surrounded by tower development, freeways and dead end streets. My next trip I'll almost certainly go to the DT closer to the real centre of town.

In the interests of being fair, I checked my internet CC statement just before calling HSW about this today and they have pushed through the refund. So, nasty email to GM and charge-back to Amex averted.

Yes. Eventually got it after much time wasting, etc etc. Hence my annoyance at the whole process.

Whats the bet the CSR was getting confused between the 'continental' breakfast offered in the lounge by way of your exec room upgrade, and the 'continental' breakfast offered in the restaurant as part of your HH Gold entitlement? The way I read it nowadays is that as a gold HH in an exec room, its _my_ choice where to have breaky, either inthe lounge or in the restaurant. I usually just turn up in the restaurant and give them my room number, no-one has asked me anything for ages re: continental or full, so I just get seated and go to town :)

Markis and Moopere,

Thanks, might give it a try next time. Hopefully they will have the wireless internet running, as that is the main complaint I say on Tripadvisor.

I didn't notice any building noise at the Hilton, but it was just a few of the lifts were out so it meant it took longer for the other ones as there was more load on them and some of the nicer restaurants were out of action.

I do agree it is handy to KL Central but not a lot else around it, but the staff are good and I found them helpful when I needed anything.

After bumping into dead ends and generally going around and around in circles I gave up and just sat by the pool - enjoyed myself enormously and needed the rest but next time I'm in KL I'll want to get out and about, so the Hilton KL's location just won't do it for me. Looking on google maps the DT KL will be just the ticket. Thanks to Markis10 for the photos.

The DT will bring a wireless router to the room if needed, I usually have a Hotlink service from my phone so not to worried, the lounge has wireless access as well.
