Really? In Sydney? Noice.

Status: Diamond
Establishment: Hilton Sydney

Experience: Stayed on 2 separate occasions. Booked Guest Room and was upgraded to Exec Room - albeit probably the first level of the executive floors. 2x Complimentary bottles of water (400 mL each) - had to ask for it, complimentary breakfast in the Glass, access to EL. On the second occasion they welcomed me back with a 187 mL of Merlot.

Property: Conrad London St James
Booked: King Superior

Received: Executive King Deluxe Plus

First impressions :
Beautiful hotel, impeccable service at check-in. Agent stated that the systems weren't fully integrated with HH yet and apologised that as I was on a reward stay they didn't have my address and details except name and HH number.
Room is very nice, modern, large and well appointed. Diamond amenity consisted of card, fruit and water. High speed internet is complimentary for Diamond guests and there is a password provided in the Diamond benefits letter.
Popped in briefly into the Exec Lounge for afternoon tea. It's a pleasant space, lots of little nooks. Will try to make time tomorrow to go to breakfast in the restaurant if I have time.

Thanks PF. Great photos and comments. As you know I'm interested to stay here. I bit the bullet and will do 5 nights next year at Hilton Tower Bridge then 2 nights a month or two later at the Conrad on the same P + C rate as you which I got just prior to it vanishing.

Property: HSW
Date: 30 August 2014
Rate: A$230 (Gov't rate)
Room booked: Queen Hilton Family Room
Received: 2 BR apartment at the south end of 19th floor. Has to be the best in the hotel with views to the East, South and West. Water, lounge access and breakfast incl.

After the stay above I actually made a note in my next HSW booking regarding how good I thought 1917 was and suggested they could always give that to me if offering an upgrade. We checked in again today only to have my comments read back to me with a smile and an apology. Sorry we couldn't get you 1917 so hope that 1817 will suffice. :D:D:D:D:D

Thanks HSW.

For those who have requal'd Gold/Platinum before rather than being comped it, how strict is Hilton on the limits - particularly for Australian residents where it is so much harder.

I have a HTokyo,HFukoaka,HNagoya,DTBangkok,CBangkok,DTPhuket,HPhuket coming up giving me 7 stays/11nights but still only likely to be at 15 stays for the year, and just wondering is I need to plan something else.

You'll need to plan something else. Hilton are very strict, not enough stays=no requalification. Nor do they have a soft landing.

However, once you've crashed down to Silver level you can ask for a Platinum challenge and may be able to requalify if you do enough stays in a short time frame.

Had this room the night before my wedding last year.

May have had a sneaky game of cricket in the hallway...

Strict, as mentioned. Any chance of making the base points target instead? No idea what it is for gold, which I imagine is your goal?

Gold is 20 stays, 40 nights or 75K base points - see table here.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to dive from Diamond to Silver from 1 March 2015 (with only 6 stays, 9 nights and 13,175 base points YTD). Oh well, 2 years of Diamond was fun...

You'll need to plan a matress run before 31 December - overseas is cheaper than in Australia. Now don't forget to look at day-use rooms (9am to 5pm) though here in Australia, they are cheaper ;)

Given most of my stays are single nights at the Asian properties (with the above main 7-stay trip utilising both the 50% off promitions in Japan and Thailand), I suspect no chance.

For gold
75k basepoints = us$7.5k spend = us$375/stay (20 stays) or us$188/night (40 nights).

For diamond
120k basepoints = US$12k spend = us$400 stay (30 stays) or us$200/night (60 nights)

If it was total points, would be easier given all the promotions.

So resigned on being back to Silver, unless I take the Macquarie Hilton card.

For gold
100k basepoints = us$10k spend = us$500/stay (20 stays) or us$250/night (20 nights).

Gold is 75K base points, 120K is for Diamond.

75K/20= 3750 base points / stay for 20 stays (US$375/stay) or us$187.50 per night to hit the 40 nights bar.

I'll never ever make it on stays, not so long as I have to work and work doesn't send me away to stay with hilton every fortnight or so. Last year I made it on nights, but only just. An absolute _ton_ of nights in Asia which I'll probably never replicate again. So, this year I'm really in trouble.

I need base points. But argh! 20 nights is probably about all I can do, 75,000/20= US$375/night. Given the usually pretty coughpy rate that Hilton uses to convert from AUD that going to be the best part of $500 a night.

I'm one of those customers at the extreme low end of Gold ... with the previous scheme I could, with some effort, just scrape in. Since they revised the requirements its looking like a bridge too far for me. I'll get by next year on a VA comp gold I hope, but after that .... might be the end

Actually was editing my post as you replied, once I realised that.

But yes. its a long task in Australia.
Even when I did have HOTP on my corporate list, it often priced outside the rate category, so it is very much Personal Account.

If you want gold, maybe the Mac Bank card is best for you?

I'm diamond on base point, as I don't travel for work and only have leisure stays. My once a year Hilton Niseko stay generally gets me to gold by mid Jan (lift passes, rental, all meals on mountain can be charged to the room!) so the rest is not so hard!

Last time I checked, which admittedly was quite some time ago, there wasn't comp gold attached to this card, just the 20% discount of properties in AP. I'll go and have another look.

I try to do this as well. Rack up as many 'normal' expenses to my room as possible. O/S this is relatively easy, but in Australia I've found it to be pretty bad value by and large and still not easy to do for _everything_.

Nice tip that one... Stayed there a couple of years ago over ski season - really nice hotel, and the fix priced lunches are awesome... Only downside was the tiny 'wet room' bathrooms

The bathrooms are pretty small, but they are your standard shower-bath combo and not a total wet-room.

The sushi buffet lunch is the best- all al a carte, made to order by the sushi chef in front of you. At dinner 2 pieces costs about $8-10. At lunch all you can eat is $30!
