Overall an excellent stay. Very friendly staff. Dining at the restaurant was excellent. Gin spritz or sparkling wine on arrival in reception. Two fresh cookies and bottle of sparkling wine in the room. When shown to the room and the cookies MrsDaver6 pointed out that she can't eat chocolate. They baked some fresh non-chocolate ones for her. More cookies on departure remembering the dietary requirements. All guest also receive a book about the property. Took the daily property tour on the first evening which was informative and included a glass of sparkling.

Room with the improved view was certainly worth it. Only gripe with the room was the very limited wardrobe space.

Property: Sofitel Darling Harbour, Sydney
Status: Accor Plus Diamond
Room booked: Superior Room
Room upgraded/type: Initially, no. Eventually yes.
  • Received Superior Room with no view despite Darling Harbour view and standard suites available.
  • Escalated to Millésime Lounge manager who stated that the suites available were not for upgrade purposes, and then when pushed further stated that an upgrade could only be provided to the Darling Harbour View room. Could not explain why I was in the base room and not upgraded to the view room type in the first place.
  • Escalated further to General Manager, received Prestige Suite.
Rate: Corporate Rate
Free internet: Yes
Welcome drink: Yes – 2 vouchers for premium drinks, very good selection at Champagne Bar.
Early check in/late out: 4pm late check out granted.
VIP treatment: Bottle of wine and selection of dessert canapes.
Overall opinion: Hard product very good, minimal wear and tear for a couple of year old property. Soft product mixed. Lounge only open on Friday and Saturday, however room service canapés provided on other days.

Property: Movenpick Melbourne on Spencer
Status: Accor Plus Gold
Room booked: 2 x Classic King Room
Room upgraded/type: Yes, 2 x Superior King Room
Rate: Accor Plus Red Hot Rooms $161.20 per room (public rate was $269)
Free internet: Yes, blazing quick wifi - 500mbps down 300mbps up.
Welcome drink: Yes – 1 voucher per room
Early check in/late check out: Early check-in from 10am by prior request. I didn't request nor need late check out.
VIP treatment: 2 x reasonable craft beers on ice in the room (for anyone who cares, Hop Nation The Damned and Moon Dog Lager). Front desk 'heard I liked beer' and confirmed this existed as a note on my ALL profile. 🥲 Possibly from my last stay at Sofitel on Collins during GABS earlier this year. Bag of rocky road and handwritten cards in both rooms.
Overall opinion: Faultless service and very friendly interactions. Could have been a little more generous on the upgrade, but given the early check-in and how dirt cheap the rate is I really can't complain. Forgot my phone charging cable and was very pleased to find the alarm clock has built-in Qi charging. There's a little bit of noise from the trams/trains but otherwise I'd highly recommend giving this property a try.

Property: Swissotel Sydney
Status: Accor Plus Diamond
Room booked: Premier King Room, 1 King Bed

Received an invite from Accor for dinner and nights accommodation.
Dinner was at the Qld Art Gallery, then a night at the Pullman King George Square.
Dinner was wonderful and the location stunning.
Thank you very much ALL Australia.

Not to distract from or underplay a very nice guesture from Accor @Muppet501st , but I'm curious that you received this as a Platinum member as I would have thought these would be offered to Daimond only. I've been Accor Gold for a few years now and I struggle to get the benefits such as late check out and especially room upgrade when the hotel is quite noticeably not full and have only been successful about 1/3 times. Do you stay as a couple most times?

I’m actually a ALL plus Diamond,( into my second year , 170 nightin 2020) the letter was wrong ;)
90% of the time it’s just me, but I’m pretty fortunate that my work allows me to bring the wife along when it suits.
Like next week, back at Peppers Broadbeach.

Nice.
All I ever got when platinum was a set of leather luggage tags and a Moleskin notebook.
Yep, got those as well has headphones when I was a Plat, but have been a Diamond since just after they introduced that level.
Honestly I’ve not noticed any difference between the 2 levels whilst staying in their properties.

That makes more sense.

As a BNE based Plat who wasn’t invited, I was ready to drop ‘em like a sack of spuds.

That's interesting as I've been experimenting on booking a single vs a couple and seeing the experience over the last few years. The outcome is that if more than one person is expected I have a greater chance of a room upgrade, more drink vouchers and able to get a later room checkout. Even though there is only one person actually staying :)

I have had the opposite experience in relation to upgrades. Traveling solo I always get an upgrade, but when booked as a couple I get the room that was booked.
